EFAs I was at the gym today, and a guy there was talking about taking Essential Fatty Acids. Does anyone know what exactly they are? What are they good for? Is there any risk in them? Where can I find good ones cheap? Is there anything I should look for when buying them? Thanx, Brent. __________________ God is in the rain. |

EFAs Well, I'm not a nutritionist, but I pretend to be one while training... Essential Fatty Acids are just that, "essential" and are found in foods like fish. Omega 3 is an EFA and among other things I believe they are good to help protect the joints and assist in all round "lubrication" of the body. Flax Seed Oil is also a good and relatively inexpensive source of these acids and from what I understand provides more of the Omega 3s than seafood--a tablespoon a day should do the trick (caution: it has a somewhat "grassy" flavor that takes getting used too). There are other sources to at the local health food section of the grocery store, GNC, etc. Of course, don't just take my word for it! Here are a couple links: http://www.vegansociety.com/html/foo...atty_acids.php and a little more technical description than I am able to provide: http://waltonfeed.com/omega/ So the upshot is figure out how to add some of these to the diet! __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

I use flax seed oil and mix it into my post-workout protein shake...it was a lot cheaper than I'd expected (about $10 Cdn for 355ml/12 oz, which, at a tablespoon a day, lasts a while), and I'd heard just about what notbigenuff has said. Also that EFAs help your body to process/absorb protein. It's no miracle worker, but it is a part of the balanced nurtition thing. |
