D-Day 60 What was your opinion of President Bush's speech at Omaha Beach this morning? |

Bush's speech -- not covered in U.S. until AFTER it happened CelticMuscle, [BTW, your sentence is almost invisible. It came out black on black background. For the benefit of all, I'm retyping it here: "What was your opinion of President Bush's speech at Omaha Beach this morning?" Answer: [Mdlftr] Bush's speech occurred in the middle of the night in the U.S., time wise, so it wasn't carried live. In addition, it was pre-empted by the extensive coverage of the death of former President Ronald Reagan, Saturday afternoon. So, to answer your question: "Speech?! What Speech?!" The Washington Post noted how Reagan's speech at Omaha Beach, during D-Day celebrations 20 years ago, on the 40th anniversary, was a big hit, a major milestone in American-world wide relations, and a big help to Reagan's subsequent successful re-election campaign. Bush was described, by contrast, as appearing "tense and ill-at-ease". Based on the news reports, sounds like "W" didn't get this one handed to him--too bad for him. {I'll bet you can't tell who I'm voting for in November!! } Completely apolitical { } Mdlftr |
