Wow, I am still pretty young, but at one point I would have given a lot to have that ability. There's something about the desire to get my life completely perfect, or as perfect as it possibly could be, that used to be quite an obsession. I think that is why I enjoy your story. I realize now that there is no 'perfect life,' but it is definitely an excellent fantasy.

This story is very trippy to read at 3:25 in the a.m., when you have no sense of time or space left in you. I can barely read the screen, but it has been a lot of fun, just finding new parts of the story each time I connect to the forum. AND on the same thread. A very novel idea.

Similarly, 9/11 or something like it, may have been inevitable, given the laxity of security precautions in the U.S., compared to the rest of the world. Remember the IRA and multiple bombings in Britain in the 1970s and 1980s. Italy had its premier kidnapped and executed by the Red Brigade in the 1970s. Who would have believed "it can happen here" until it did? Conversely, who would have changed the circumstances to prevent something from happening before it did?

It's interesting to see whether Richard's narrator is supposed to complete something from life to life. So far, the "straight" life seems to have had the most potential for systemic change, since it shows the narrator changing the attitudes and behaviors of a whole bunch of people, one at a time.

I'm enjoying this and can't wait to see where Richard takes us!

Oh, there are some - see the concept of "horseshoe nails" in Michael Flynn's IN THE COUNTRY OF THE BLIND -but not many. Nice to see this bit of reality incorporated into a story in this mostly-wish-fulfillment sit.
