which sport would you play?

hey everyone, im starting college in the fall and i kidna wanna play a sport, i was on the varsity swim team for 3 years in high school, would of been 4 but due to a health problem i was forced to not swim my senior year and have surgery, so i was thinking about finding another sport in college to play, which sport would you guys choose?

really wish they had a football program, or this would be easier, what would you guys choose?

If I could have a second chance at my youth, I'd probably choose to be a hockey or a football jock....Ah well, I'll just have to settle for one of those adult leagues that seem to spring up here and there. Maybe I'll learn how to skate this winter...

Anyway, I'd recommend hockey for two (entirely selfish) reasons: One, I'm Canadian and our constitution requires that we support and endorse hockey in whatever manner possible upon pain of death, and two, hockey players are HOT.

Reminds me of why I never get between Canooks, and their hockey! However, I think soccer players are hot too, and so are wrestlers.

I'd choose Hockey or Baseball, there the two sports where the guys look the hottest.

Assuming 'crew' is rowing. Yeah, I'd do it.
Great for bulking up. Seriously great, if you stick to it.
My favourite guys at school were the ones that came back after summer with another 20lbs of muscle packed on from summer training . All rowers were studs at my school.. Plus, it's great excersise and it's got better scenery than soccer.. :P

Wrestling without a doubt... but I have a pretty strong bias about that. Any sport where I get to personally man-handle another man and use my muscle to dominate him or be dominated.... sounds like hella fun to me!!

So - escaping my own bias - maybe I'll explain it in the way that my 16yo cousin explained it to me (why he chose wrestling) when we talked a few months ago:

Jerrik (my super-jock little cousin) is about 5'11" and maybe 145-155lbs at the age of 16. He is, however... despite his diminutive size... 100% muscle. You can see every single striation of every muscle on his upper body and count all of his ribs too. He has an incredible v-taper for never having lifted a single weight in his entire life. If I were to estimate his body fat percentage it would be in the less than 5% category. It has always been Jerrik's primary goal in life to be able to take me down.... :P That aside, and having nothing to do with this... he still can't.

Anyway.... for the last 4 or 5 years of his life, he's been a super-star track and soccer athelete. He enjoys soccer but it's less than over-all rewarding for him and track... now that he's in high school... has also become sort of overly demanding to a pretty silly extent (IE coach making him run 10 miles/day!!!) when he's trying to do other sports at the same time. His first year in HS (2 years ago) he tried out for, and made the JV Football team... which he also enjoys for the team aspect. He likes the teamwork feeling and the knowledge of belonging. Jerrik has never been a "leader" or very outspoken, so it's good for him to feel like he belongs to something.

HOWEVER.... last year his little catholic High School decided to finally adopt their first wrestling team. With a little suggestion from me that he might actually learn how to kick my ass if he joined... he decided to be one of the first guys to sign up... shortly followed by most of his closest friends. A year later, it has become his favorite sport of all-time. He's not GREAT yet, but in only a year he went from pathetic to VERY good for his weight class because he loves it so incredibly much and he has a GREAT coach (whom I've spent a few hours talking to myself. ).

Anyhow, when I asked him about it a couple months ago, he gave me some great reasons as to why he loves it so much (BTW, according to his parents it seems that I'm one of the only family members still "cool" enough to talk to... so I end up being the one having lots of conversations with him... LOL):

1.) Wrestling is a sport where everything is truly on a level playing field. You're separated into weight classes and only pitted against other atheletes of similar genetic composition to you. Therefore the success of the match is more about skill and hard work in preparation (how hard you train your body) than it is about who's the biggest or the strongest of all or who can throw the football the furthest

2.) Wrestling is a sport where everyone can be a star... not just the quarterback. You can weigh 120lbs and be 5'2" and be a wrestling super-star within your own weight class... you can even take state.

3.) You still get to play as a team... but everyone contributes evenly. You learn with your friends, by wrestling with them at practice... and you make eachother better in your practice matches. Then you go out and wrestle another guy from another school and everyone gets the same shot... everyone gets to wrestle and contribute to the team, nobody's a bench warmer... not just the varsity first line, and not just the quarterback.

4.) (My own reasons): In the end, you'll be strongest and toughest guys in the entire school for your given size. Seriously... wrestlers are a lot tougher than football players or any other athelte, IMHO.

5.) (My own reason also): You can practice anywhere and at any time!!! You don't even need any equipment!!! It's the epitome of the poor man's sport. You can even have a busy schedule and still get lots of practice so long as your practice friend can share the same free-time slots... you don't even need the whole team together to really practice well!

-----

I could probably sit here and think of 20 more reasons why I think Wrestling is better than all those other sports... but that's just my bias. It is a somewhat dangerous sport, and it is also not for the weak of heart or easily susecptible to pain. HOWEVER... even if you believe you are too much of a wimp when it comes to pain to wrestle, you really should try it. You'd be surprised what adrenaline will do for you, and how easy it is to ignore pain when you're in the midst of a great conflict.

Enough rambling for now... I'm done.

P.S. Jerrik's Dad and I have been working hard to try to convince him to lift some weights. I can't imagine how formittable he'll be when he actually does it. I know that eventually we'll convince him.

swimming is NOT injury free, it will totally fuck up your shoulders, ive seen it happen to many of my former team mates and my sister

on the other hand i was thinking of trying something other than swimming, seeing as how i swam 3 years varsity, 5 years total but ill deffinatly think about it!

What sport

It would seem to me that Rugby should be listed here. Some outstandiingly bullish men and their physiques appear at Rugby matches,

Gymnast... Mitch Gaylord, Bart Conners
Wrestler... high school/college wrestler 128-150lb range
Martial Artist... Bruce Lee

Compact dense lean muscle mass without bulk or excess height

Tall is over rated, the taller you are the harder your heart needs to work... so it's more likely to wearout sooner...
