What would happen if Myostatin was set loose on an unsuspecting community and it spread like the flu transforming males into bodybuilders . No one is spared , from 12 to 50 are affected . Each becoming strong , verile , energetic and ready to take on the world.

Well if everyone were verile and strong what would be the point? Maybe SOME are immune to the effects of the body builder bug and have to become unwitting slaves or toys to the new found musclemen?

Or you could combine it with the conspiracy theory about AIDS (it is released delibertly in the community and only affects people of a certain background) in this particular case perhaps people who have ever exercised in their lives and then suddenly find they have to.

There's a technical problem to this: myostatin limits muscle growth.

Yeah, "Myostatin blockers" block the activity of myostatin so that muscles continue to grow.

Yeah, This idea is hot. I like the idea of one or two guys being immune. It would to be hot read about a bug, who's normal friends, workmates etc slowly became part of the super men. Slowly the bug and the builder's earlier relationship would have to change as the virus spread and took hold of more people.

I believe you have the effect of Myostatin backwards... Myostatin causes unneeded muscle to be broken down and replaced by fat... Evolution sees having a lot of muscle you don't use as a bad thing because you need to eat a lot to maintain it... That's why there is myostatin to trim down the overly muscular so they don't eat the rest of the human race out of house and home...

If you have defective Myostatin or a protein that blocks the action of myostatin you never loose muscle and can't gain fat and you would turn into a super shredded muscle freak puttering around in the garden on weekends... the problem is that nerve cell are easily damaged by things that prevent or retard the growth of fat cell because they share a lot of chemistry... So there is a possibility that if someone's myostatin system was severally compromised there is a very good chance that person's nervous system could be damaged...

If this speculation is correct you have the perfect basis for the Pleasure Boy drug... It makes you increadably buff and ripped and gives you the IQ of a small appliance lamp...

If you were to cause Myostatin to rage throught a population the same way flu does you would have an outbreak of something the would look a lot like end stage HIV-AIDS
