I use Trader Joe's Trader Darwin brand vitamins, and I think they are good, but I don't think you have Trader Joe's in New England.

Vitamins are vitamins! They've been making them for nearly a century I think they've got the process down pat.

Get a balance of them, don't overindulge, and don't don't get outdated ones.

Generics are OK but be suspicious of really cheap ones.

but,seriously folks

some tips.with most vitamins,it's hard to overdose, because your body will just piss out the excess.this is good&bad.you can't OD but you can waste your money.the exception is oil-based vitamins(E,A,D,etc)which can build up in your system.for a good general vitamin brand,i trust Twinlab, just because they've been investigated more than anybody else&have good quality control.ALL supplement manufacturers get their base materials from approx.3 labs, but there can be problems with honesty(is it the stated amount of what it's supposed to be?)&variation from batch to batch.

Uh... it was "Vita-Meata-Vegamin" it says so right here on a 50 foot concrete wall in Jamestown NY (Lucille Ball's home town). Right across the street from the Lucille Ball Museum and where there is a big Lucille Ball festival and gathering of Lucille Ball fans every summer.

Yoicks! I stand corrected, GB!

You obviously are more 'on the Ball' than I am!

I can't help it. I grew up in Jamestown. If it wasn't for Lucy and the old people too poor or stubborn to move to Florida, Jamestown would dry up and blow away. It's still stuck in the 50's and any kid smart enough gets out of town as soon as possible.

My tip for vitamins: unless you have a deficiency caused by a health problem, there is no need to take a vitamin supplement... if you maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet (like everyone *should*).

It is easier for most people on this board to get their daily recomended dosage of vitamins as we are eating so much more already, so its easier to reach what we need. Furthermore, most vitamin needs do not increase even with an augmented amount of physical activity (and don't get me started with anti-oxidants). It is possible to overdose on vitamins, as some of the storebought supplements hold over 200 times the daily recomended intake. That, over a lifetime (or even part of one) can lead to toxic levels due to chronic overdose.

All that to say: eat healthy, you'll be fine. Fruit are your friend.

Nutritionists categorize vitamins by the materials that a vitamin will dissolve in. There are two categories: water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins.Vitamin A improves our vision and prevents night blindness. The normal tension of day-to-day life, along with deficiencies of essential daily nutrients, put our bodies under a tremendous amount of stress.

Always take a good vitamin

I always take a good vitamin because with the level of workingout that I do, I am afraid of running myself down.
It is a backup, and keeps me level, but there have been some brands that have an excess of b for example, and this made me jumpy.
It is matter of finding what suits- If it is a placebo, so be it. I feel better and it does no harm

Ok a few things to remember about vitamins. A vitamine is not a source of energy ( calorie) in the body. We obtaine our energy from micronutrients- carbs, proteins and fats. Vitamines help the body convert these microneutreints into a more bio-avaiable or metabolically useful forms. Vitamines function principallt as a coenzyme( working with enzymes) for a varitity of metabolic reactions and biomechanisms with in the body. the first vitamine was isolated in 1911 from rice polishings ( this is the vitamine thiamin) It was found to be amine( containing nitrogen) and it was termed vitamine thats means " amine essential for life" al vitamines are not amines and the term has been changed to vitamin. There are 2 forms of vitamins water souable and fat soluable. Water soluable tend to lost when in the cooking process as they tend to be sensative to heat but they can be lost also in raw form due to being sensative to light, heat, air and time. mostly the B family and C are in this group. Fat-soluable are found in the lipid component of both vegtables and animal food sources.
fat soluable vitamins can be stored in the body tissues so we can function longer without obtaining them from a diet. its for this reason that one can get toxix levels more easily from regualr intake of these vitamins espically
A, D, K. Toxicity with Vit E is less likely because its used to protect the body as an antioxident. The RDA amounts while a base line have been critized for their failure in 3 major components. failure to address individual differences, failure to address disease prevention and failure to address optimal nourishement. Vitamines are best used in seperate forms ad certain lifestyle habits can be handles on a more effective basis than the normal daily multi vitamin. items such as sugar are mineral depleting substances and will over toime create the urge to eat sugary foods. this is a vitamin imbalance. people who smoke need a higher intake of Vitamins A,C,E and selenium and L-cysterine as anti oxidents in dealing with the effects of smoke and the chemicals in that product. One final note water soluable vitamins espically need to be taken with food before they can be assimilated and used by the body whereas fat soluable vitamins can be utilized or taken in the morning or at bedtime alone.any questions feel free to contact me.
