Twitter: Killer Ap or Frivolous Time-Waster? Since I suggested a non-financial forum, let me kick this one off with a thread about Twitter, which appears to have hit the tipping point in the last four weeks -- so much so it seems to be overloaded. I actually heard about this forum first from a few Twitter posts of some of the founders of this forum so I can attest to its utility. On the other hand, do we really care that so-and-so is eating Special K for breakfast this morning, or applying lipstick at the stoplight? http://www.twitter.com/jonchevreau __________________ ?Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake.? ?The perfect Wedding Planning with perfect Wedding Favors ? |

Twitter, the fad du'jour. Twitter is for twits. Twitter, blogs gone live. Twitter, outlet for the brain dead. Twitter, life for those without one. (but nobody cares!) Twitter, electronic narcissism. Last edited by Gene; June 12th, 2009 at 10:14 AM. |

I can do everything on Facebook that I can do on Twitter, except follow Twits. So what's the point? I already have a Livejournal, a defunct Xanga, Blogger, Gaia, and Myspace, and tons of other accounts... |

Conan O'Brien had a good joke as part of his "In the year 3000" segment (Tonight Show, not Late Night): In the year 3000, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook will merge to become a mega-Social Networking site called YouTwitFace. |

Does anybody here realy even care about Twitter? When I found out about it, it seemed like a waste of time. |

Twitter......what utter crap! Yet again more brainless banter on the web for people with nothing else better to do with their lives, but feel that their lives are important enough to let people know what they are doing every moment of the day. For instance, this Twitter entry I found: "I just finished using my Crest Whitening Strip and it seems to work but it makes my Tic Tacs taste funny". GROAN!!! Just shoot them now.... D |

I don't have a Twitter account and I find the whole thing silly. The Tic Tac example is exactly the level of silly I mean. However, last night MSNBC was reporting that a good deal of info was getting out of Iran through Twitter. Of course, you still have to sort through the good and the bad. Ahmadinejad may have silenced traditional journalists, cut off cell service, jammed satellite phones, and so on, but the regime hasn't plugged all the holes that let info reach us. Twitter is one of those holes. |

I waste all my time (in particular order of precedence): * Here * Gay.com * Bigmuscle.com * Bigmusclebears.com * Realjock.com (And, lest you think I'm a total MQ: Salon, Slate, NYT Online, WaPo Online, The New Republic, and various bloggers, chiefly Andrew Sullivan...) Which leaves NO time for Twitter (even if I could figure out how to use it...) xoxo Richard |
