Grimm Tales: Blue Beard

Grimm Tales: Blue Beard
It was several months since the last incident and life seemed quiet for Alexander. The summer was great and he did not have any students to worry about. Many of which were on their own individual summer break on orders to keep their "Alternative" selves under lock and key unless their lives where in danger. It was a simple command, one that would keep them out of the media.

As for Alexander. He was busy having a lunch meeting with one of his friends. Her name was Sylvia and she was needing help with several matters. First of all was a stack of photos Sylvia dumped out of an envelope. A month ago she hired a sting operative to do some work on her husband. He turned up several photos of him and a woman chatting at an expensive restaurant. He didnt giver her the name of the mystery woman but it seemed all to clear what was going on. The past few months her husband has been distant, secretive, and often away; all signs of an unfaithful lover as she explained.

Alex continued to suck down his iced mocha latte while he listened. He didn't may it much mind, he knew what was going on but wanted to see if she could figure it out for herself. He pulls out his big leather book and opens it to one of the chapters. "My dear Sylvia your jumping to conclusions, your sounding like the girl in this story called Blue Beard". She began to read the book, all the while Alex wanders off for a moment, being drawn by an odd melody that haunted his memories.

----the story---

For decades the castle stood on hallowed ground, once occupied by the templars of the holy army, now an empty shell that stares at the sea. Then one day, a wealthy lord came to claim ownership of the estate. He was called blue beard due to the dark blue coloring of his hair and goatee. No one knew much about him other than he was a sea fairing man whom came into possession of the castle.

Many said he had magical powers, others that he was a fearsome pirate, some say he is a very wealthy french lord who came to the colonies in order to find a bride. The wealthy part seemed true, for weeks on end wagons came to the castle without end until the place was fully furnished. Once done he then began to invite every eligable woman into the castle and began sorting them out in order to pick his lovely bride.

He questioned each one on the subjects of trust and loyaty and eventually found one who seemed pure of heart. He married her the day after and for a few days all seemed well. He tells her he must depart on a voyage for several days and leaves her a single key. He tells her that the key can open every door in the castle, but she must not open one door. He turns it over showing a coiled snake and says not to open the door bearing this serpent on it. She agrees and figures how hard can it be to avoid a single door?

Days soon turned into weeks, she roamed the castle, knowing every part of it by the time she finished. She discovered many wonders, magical devices, books on endless topics, gold and jewels that would befit royalty. But yet her curiosity begged her to go find that forbidden door. She explored some more, eventually finding the door in the bottom of the castle. She found the door at the bottom of the winding stairs of the dungeon, and soon began to work the lock with the key. What harm could there be? not like hed ever find out.

She walks in, lighting a torch and gasps at the horrible site. Women strung up like skinned animals, heads piled up on the floor, blood painted everywhere she stepped. She droped the key in a pool of blood and visera and digs through it. She screams and slams the door behind her. She leaves the door locked and runs up the stairs trying to forget what she has seen.

She tried for hours to scrub the key clean, yet nothing seemed to work, she pratically rubbed the gold paint off the key. Then blue beared came home, he got his key back, and notced she worked the paint off. He grew angry for he knew what she had seen just by how she acted. He grabbed her by the arm and began to take her down into the dungeon, saying she needs to see everything for what it really is.

He unlocks the door and throws her inside, telling her if she was so curious she could of asked instead of snooping.
She grabs a knife off the floor, and turns with a thrust, jamming it into his heart.....

------iterlude----

Sylvia screams, coming out of the trance from the book. It all seemed so real but she could not finish such a tragic tale. She knew this had something to do with her husband, and left the book on the table knowing Alex will come back for it. Her husband obviously knows she found out, and plans to do away with her to hide his own infidelity.

---meanwhile----

Alex follows the music in his head to the arcade and gets lost in the darkness of shadows and neon lights. He then stops, smelling the unique aroma of salt water and fish. He knows that smell, a smell that brought back many memories. He turns around, seeing a hulking figure in the shadows, standing a good 7ft tall and hulking of muscle and seaweed. Dressed a littlebit like a captain it retained some human qualities as it stared down at the young magician. Alex adjusts his glasses and smiles. "Hello lover..."

-----the truth----

The truth of the matter is that Alex met the origonal Blue Beared and lived the story. Back in the year 1243 long before any one bothered to travel to the holy city. the castle itself belonged to a long dead noble family that taxed the people to death. Alex worked as a tailor, humble in his appearence he planned a simple life of making clothes and helping people in need. Then one day a new guy comes to town, very vain and beautiful for a man he acted like a tyrant. He was every bit a priate as he apeared and had the money of a king's ransom.

People flocked to him and admired him. Blue beared wanted Alexander. Mostly because Alex was a handsom youth and would make a vitting cabin boy for him when he had to head out to sea. He lavished riches and enchantments on Alex, none of which impressed him, but since he could smell a rat a mile away he let himself fall for it and became the "bride" of Blue Beared. Things went well until the priate had to go out to sea again.

Alex kept the key, and explored the castle, discovering every dirty trick and secret Blue Beared had to hide. His book glowed, and led him to the dungeon. Inside he found a horrible site. Bodies of men and women every where, torn apart and half eaten. He tried to cover up his trail, but soon the pirate came home from his voyage and discovered he was found out. He dragged Alex into the dungeon and then.....

----back to the present----

"Hello lover....or should I call you Davey Johnes?" Alex takes a calm stance, folding his arms and looking confident. The hulking beast steps forward, hiding the fact his abs were in truth lobster legs coiled up, barnicles every where, tentacles fo his hair and beared that were the color of turqoise, and tentacles bunched together in his pants to form stable legs. He looked like the one from johhny depps movie but this one seemed a bit more fowl n less like a gentleman.

The creature gurgles n growls, making no sign it can even speak the language anymore. But Alex understood it, after all, he made this monster what it is today. "Dont you growl at me...you deserved what became of you!" The creature shifts its body around "GGGGGRRRSSSHAAAAAAAA!!!!" Alex whipes a bit of salted spittle from his cheek and holds his stance. "You robbed people, killed, eaten people, and amassed a fortune. YOu deserved this form your in now...."

Alex walks away. "You cant follow me, the laws dictate that....go back to the waters where you belong..." He walks away, leaving the beast alone in the shadows. He picks up his book and looks at his cell phone. "Time for the party...."

-----back to sylvia----

She sits at home, hiding a kitchen knife next to her, waiting for him to come home. He arrives home from work at 5:30pm and tells her he has a suprise ready for her. She protests, saying she hates suprises. He grabs her while she hides the knife in her blouse, stuffing her ino the car and grinning. He didnt notice she had a knife on her. The whole thing was scaring her. They drove for an hour out to his cabin by the sea. OH NO...HES GONNA KILL ME AT THE CABIN AND DUMP ME IN THE WATER! Her mind kept playing it out over and over and it seemed like the most logical explanation.

He tells her this was coming for a long time, and much planning envolved. She struggles with him, trying to break free as she is dragged to the cabin. He unlocked the door, and as he turns to pull her inside, she plunged the kitchen knife into his chest and pushes him inside the door. She steps inside, feeling releif. The lights turn on, suprising her as every one is in the room with a birthday cake. Alex stares at her in disbeleif and walks away as people begin to scream. "Should of finished the story you stupid girl....."

-----the end of the story----

Alex opens the book and reads the last part of the story. As the maiden sees Blue beared fall into the room she sees its not the same room. He tells her it was all an illusion, he merely wanted a wife he could trust and would trust him in return. She cries her eyes out, seeing a room filled with paintings of her and manaquins wearing dresses he made for her.
As for Alex....

Alex stumbles into the dungeon, seeing Blue Beard follow in behind him. Blue beared explains his real name was Davey
Johnes and that yes he does drink the blood of his victims to remain alive and young. When he devours their flesh and takes their blood, he takes their remaining years and adds it to his own. Every century he takes for himself a lover whom he will plant his eggs in and hatch a new crew that will serve him.

Alex smiles, and pulls out his book. "Your a monster, and you have done horrible things, all in the name of immortality and greed...." He flips to an empty page in the book and begins his spell. "Une b?te vous ?tes une b?te que vous deviendrez d'ici jusqu'? la fin de mes jours. L'homme froid, le m?chant homme, g?t? en bas ? votre coeur. P?chez l'homme, l'homme de b?te, ?tes un monstre pour toujours plus. Aucun reste, aucune paix, aucun solice mais la mer, le monstre que vous avez cach?, ne consiste en ce quels vous serez. Si jug? vous maintenant, donc l'atome cela ?tre."(1)

Blue Beared convulses, his body writhes. His legs begin to bluge, tearing the seams of his pants as his muscles expand. His body hulking out with muscle and fighting for space on his bones as he transforms. His flesh ripping apart as his legs become tentacles, his hair falling out as they are replaced by tentacles. His body soon covered in a dence shell and his face becoming deformed. Alex leaves the dungeon, the beast too large to escape and not big enough to ever break the walls. It was a perfect setting.

--------present day-----

Alex walks into the abandoned warf, holding his book in hand. He looked around for his ex lover Davey. It seemed the right place, his sences guided him there. But he seen no sign of the beast. He walks some more, and spots the monster lurking near the meat grinder. It happens in a short motion, the creature roars, the knives go flying, and as soon as the spell is cast, it dives into the water.

Alex stops his casting, having lost site of his prey. He walks forward, the book wide open as he is ready to pick the spell back up again. Without warning a tentacle bursts through the wall and wraps around him, pulling him through and hoisting him into the air. He looks down, seeing the same beast but now nearly a hundred times bigger. It seems as time passed the creature did get out, and fed itself on ocean victims until it grew large enough to be a kraken.

The long apendage coils around him, forcing him to drop his book and watch it fall into the debris of the damaged warf. He tries to cast a quick spell but it coils his arms to his side, forcing him to watch as it draws him closer to its mouth. It wants the spell to end, and to do that he must kill Alexander to do it. Alex struggles at first trying a verbal transformation spell to give him some strength. His body bulks up some, gaining muscle mass and fur as he is trasnformed into a werewolf. He tries to struggle free but nothing, the hold on him tightens and forces him back into his human state.

He struggles some more, sliding his arm out as it was nearly dislocated. He thinks fast, and decides to copy a movie he had seen. He runs his hand over his face and slicks his hair back, transforming his skin into scales and his hair into snakes. He screams loudly as his eyes begin to light up, staring Davey Johnes right in the eyes. Much like clash of the titans the beast begins to turn to stone, becoming a large statue in the water. Alex focuses his energy on the part that holds him, shattering the stone and falls into the water.

He swims onto the pier of the warf and runs inside, looking for his book. The stone curse begins to ware off, the beast thawing out as it begins to slowly gain flesh and mobility again. Alex moves the wooden beams out of the way and flips through the pages of his book to a blank spot. He then raises his hand while holding the book and points right at Davey Johnes. "La B?te Abominable qui tourmente le profond, qui a fait tous les mortels et les cr?atures g?mit et pleure. Comme Cthulu sombre vous dormirez maintenant, pour toujours attach?s, dans les pages profond?ment. Votre temps est venu et maintenant je me lierai, vous garder l? et ?tre distanc?. La cr?ature de profonds, du mal et de la pituite, est attach?e aux pages, se sent perdue ? temps!"(2)

In blinding light Davey Johnes is engulfed and struggles as the book draws him in. He fights it will all his might, but soon finds no matter his size he cannot fight the magic of the book, the same magic that shaped him and cursed him to his form. Alex drops the book, seeking cover as the tentacles int he water lash about, destorying the warf. The beast is sucked inside, leaving a book floating in the water, and debris everywhere. Ale recoveres the book, happy it remained so remarkably dry despite the events.

He walks off, happy that his troubles got resolved so quickly. He wishes that the monster would of remained in the ocean depths, but then again, alot want him dead so they can be free. Days pass and people can only assume that hooligans vandalized the warf. Alex merely sits and reads his book, wondering what else can befall him. Little does he know somthing bigger is coming, one that he wont be able to suck into the book like a dirt devil vacuum.

(1)A beast you are a beast you'll become from now till the end of my days. Cold man, wicked man, rotten down to your core. Fish man, beast man, be a monster forever more. No rest, no peace, no solice but the sea, the monster you hid, is what you shall be. So judged you now, so mote it be.
(2)Vile Beast that plagues the deep, who made all mortals and creatures wail and weep. Like dark Cthulu you now shall sleep, forever bound, in pages deep. Your time has come, and now I will bind, to keep you there, and be left behind. Creature of deep, of evil and slime, be bound to the pages, be lost in time!

Maybe a better translation would be :

1 : Une b?te vous ?tes, une b?te vous serez d'ici ? la fin de mes jours. Homme froid, homme cruel, pourri jusqu'au fondement de votre c?ur.
Homme poisson, homme bestial (or Homme b?te), soyez un monstre ? jamais.

the best I could do without altering the meanings too much but keeping the general idea, and I still have to get around the rhymes and feet.
good story

EXCELLENT! You really should think of publishing a book of stories and a book of curses.
