Chris,
This is another one of your "meeting on a business trip" stories! I loved the line where the narrator thought to himself,

"I was having a perfect fantasy and then I had a dreadful thought—the stud in the pool was a salesman. My rising expectations were dashed. In my eyes he went from king to pond scum. "

I laughed at that one! i also liked the following:

"The elevator slowed and stopped. “This is my floor,” I said not realizing that we had past the third floor without stopping.

“Good,” he said with a smile."

Good writing! You always seem to come up with these unique scenarios where the narrator is in an unfamiliar situation and then.....something exciting and wonderful happens!

Do you do a lot of traveling for work? You seem to really nail the whole excitement/boredom time-speeds up/time slows down of the traveling business man. When you are away from your "normal" office or work environment, who knows WHAT may happen???

Keep up the good work!

Mdlftr - who does a fair amount of traveling for work from time to time......

Ditto what RPJ and Mdlftr wrote!

I didn't do conventions, I did long-term projects and living out of a suitcase (AND finding gyms that worked for me) SUCKED! On-call for the boss even during hours that would be mine back home...MAN I don't miss that.

Your build up of the "king of the pool" and the interaction in the elevator were GREAT!

I'm very much hoping this isn't a one-off and we get to see just how hot that fire gets. And...why does the phrase "charles masters peter johnson" tweak my horny nerve?

Lucas88,
I actually picked those two names out of the hat. It is strange how they take on a whole new meaning by the end of the story. I promise that it was purely a coincidence.

As for a part two I haven't decided yet what "fire" Peter will be jumping into. There are several ways I could go with this. We'll see if the second part (which is in rough draft form) turns out to be worth publishing.

Mdlftr,
I speak from personal experience. I have worked as a Field Service Rep (electronics) for many years and have been abused by many a sales person. They are all pond scum! I have memories of abuse that would... never mind. It will just make my blood pressure skyrocket. I decline conventions these days if at all possible mainly because you are on call 24 hours a day for the duration. Besides I hate living out of a suitcase!

Coop

Jumping from the frying pan into the fire surely does seem to imply a chapter 2, at least!!! Here's hoping!
