Fictional Realism

I've had this idea bouncing around in my head for a long time but never encountered a name for it until today: "fictional realism." I'd always thought other universes were just extremely distant places outside the Milky Way which can theoretically be reached, so "multiverse" didn't seem quite right. Essentially, Fictional Realism is the theory that all possibilities exist in an indefinite or infinite number of other realities, including realms where natural laws differ, enabling magic or other phenomena. I'd like to believe this theory is at least partially true, but doubt there is any way for one parallel reality to affect or interact with another.

Having said that, here's my idea/fantasy: a character from scratch or a story on this forum "makes himself available" to us in a thread specifically for that purpose. (That is, a user in-character interacting with other users out-of-character.) We can ask him questions and make requests and he will respond. If the character "agrees" to someone's suggestion, a short story may result, depending on the nature and complexity of the suggestion.

Thoughts on this idea? If people like it and want to participate, I volunteer to portray Craig from my incomplete story, Otaku Legacy.

It's certainly an interesting concept, and one I've seen in various forms a few times before; I think Robert Heinlein had something vaguely like it in the Lazarus Long works. However, I've never seen it in the form of "Character makes himself available", which has a lot of potential. I'm in, certainly, if only as an observer.

This happens often in the chat room; its called 'role playing', and when done in public, and many interact, it can be fun. (usually, 2 chatters go at it, and the rest just read). just writing "inm bounces watermellon-sized pecs" signals entry into super reality, and people may play along (or not, as mood dictates)

Role playing as most people understand it involves two or more people in character. I'm suggesting one person be in character and everyone else be out of character.

Sounds interesting, but the problem on this forum is that everyone is on at different times and you may end up with extremely large gaps in your timeline.

Not necessarily. There's no reason the inquiries have to be answered live or one at a time.
