A question on etiquette I have a question on etiquette. If I read something in a fantastic piece of fiction that is inaccurate - let's say the author identifies a landmark as being someplace it is not, should I send a private e-mail noting the discrepency, or is that considered rude? I suspect different authors would have different opinions. I really do not want to offend, which has now got me wondering if I should even post this. |

Well, if it happened with any story of mine, I wouldn't feel humiliated in none of the cases. The private message is always a more polite way, but it all depends on your approach to the issue - if your message just wants to correct an error, it is perfectly acceptable - just like me and my (many) grammar mistakes. Feedback from the readers is really important, not just the complimments but also the sugestions, and construtive criticism such as yours. Thanks for being so kind, after all the golden rule in etiquette states that we must be respectful towards the other people. Cheers __________________ There's no such thing as TOO BIG! |

Also remember that every story doesn't have to take place in "our" timeline/continuum/etc. Maybe Lincoln was a spy, and there's a "Booth Memorial"! Maybe they found a better place to build the Golden Gate Bridge. A discreet email to the author is the best idea, just to let them know that (at least for us!) the Alamo is in San Antonio and not San Angelo. |
