Do you want each chapter of a story in a seperate thread or all in one post?

Once I've completed the OCR and edit of Jason Grows Up I will re-post it on this forum - so please let me know if you like to read and/or write comments per chapter - or prefer reading a story in it's entirety all at once and then read / write comments on the entire story.

I like each chapter separate threads. When its one tread it hard to read sometimes and too long.

It depends on how much you have in one segment. If it's only 4-8 paragraph's installments at any given time, then having it as posts in one thread might be better. If it's a bigger story that might take more than 3-5 minutes to fully read, then a separate chapter.

After giving this some thought and seeing some immediate post results that indicated strongly members prefer 1 post - then within an hour finding a change, in that the majority of members prefer per chapter posts...

What if I made one post containing the entire story - and another series of single posts, each containing 1 chapter allowing members to make specific comments on that chapter.

Would this be too much? Might members appreciate the consideration and happily read their preferred thread(s)? Or would forum moderators consider that as breaking the rules and give me shit?

They would probably not say anything, but you would essentially be spamming the ever-living hell out of the story section by adding chapter snippets of something you already posted. I think what people mean by chapters is "No I don't want to read a 100 page long story arc in one post. I would very much prefer it to be broken down into 10 10 page stories and label those as chapters."

Kenstaff, what do YOU want to do? It's your story. As a writer, I prefer to post separate chapters because it encourages more thanks and comments, which is the only reward we get for our work here. Post one chapter, wait for reactions, then post the next one. Do what works best for YOU. You deserve it.

I'm a sucker for giving people what they want. Having said that - I agree and I wish everyone would comment on what they've just read - even if it's just "great writing" or "confusing storyline" I'm actually constantly surprised such a low percentage of people post comments.

Although I'd already stopped posting, one particular member's reaction to my request for members to comment on my stories, included this:


You're writing porn, yo. It's creepy, incestuous porn. What do you want people to say?
"Boy, I sure did cum a lot there. That was definitely semen-inducing."


... that hit hot for me and prompted me to delete everything.

Funny though, recently I've realized we're all here looking for a story that might do just that, hah! Perhaps guilt and/or anonymity plays a factor in preventing the majority of members from commenting on a story - if they comment they are exposed to the rest of the forum?

Well the title of the thread and that of the poll don't mesh. The title of the thread implies you're asking for a general preference for a random story, and in that regard I prefer the chapters separately. Mostly because it is far easier to follow and keep up with new stories. Having to sift thru pages and pages of a single thread to see if there is a new chapter is annoying and makes me less inclined to bother. Selfish I know, but it's the truth.

However, your poll asks about a specific story in its entirety, and that case well it's entirely up to you.

Finding the results of the poll split near 50/50 between putting everything in 1 post and per-chapter posts, I've come to a decision.

Now that I've completed the re-write and edit of Chapter 1 of the story, I have decided to post the entire story in a single post - however I will stagger it chapter by chapter, as I finish each re-write and edit.

I figure this could satisfy almost everyone, allowing each post to appear as a per-chapter post that gives people a chance to make comments on the chapter post until the next chapter gets posted.

OK by the time you read this - Chapter I should be posted.

OK I'm back editing this post after realizing Part I is quite a bit longer than my story parts I've posted before - making me think a single post that included each part as I write it would end up being perhaps too big for one post.

Based on this fact, and actually mentioned by both ttownlittlebear and Rarity above - I've changed my mind and will instead post each part seperately.

I know, I know I went through this whole poll and post thing and went the other way anyways - what an idiot. Oh well I tried.

Either way works for me, but personally I prefer different posts, AS LONG AS THEY'RE CROSSLINKED! Since we don't have the stories being collected automatically into the forum's master archive anymore, it's a lot easier to find all the parts of a multi-post story if they're linked (especially when people change titles of works between chapters.) How the heck do I find all the parts when every part is entirely different in name?
