Hair styles Hey guys! Here's a question I've been thinking about, both out of curiosity and also with the idea of treating myself to a mini makeover sometime later this year. Anyway, now that my workouts are stating to show, and to a much lesser extent, also seem to start being noticed, my question is what's a good hair style for a bodybuilder, or at least a toned fitness physique? Picking my own hair style has never been something I've been comfortable doing. I usually just go along with whatever the stylist suggests! So I like to know what your opinions are. Thanks |

Keep it short, is all I can say. |

Have you considered the Super Saiyan look? a la Dragonball Z (spiked up blond hair) |

Hair? Too much trouble if it's any longer than a half inch. I know spikes are the rage but I've watched hair styles change over and over and over again. That style is too much work and not a keeper! Keep it short, a la 50's flat top, marine "high & tight", or perhaps a little thinner than that, to approach being a short flat mohawk without the part down the back of the head. Better yet, shave it all off and tattoo your head. Men are getting too concerned with hair. All it does is empty your wallet and keep a bunch of ditzy queens busy styling it. That and fashion, and cologne, and now men's skin cream. Come on guys, tell the women and the fluffs to keep their smelly chemicals and expensive treatments and not try to convince us to subsidize a whole society that produces nothing. Hair dressers and fashion experts and other "middlemen" should be convinced that the world is going to end, and that they can be on the first spaceship leaving before the planet explodes then the" thinkers" and the "doers" will follow later, yeah right! But LG, we know how that ended. Besides, a fun, new hair style can be a capper for folks who've not been paying attention to all of his other progress. |
| |||
Hair? Ah, to relieve the good old days when I could worry about a hair style. Now I mostly worry about keeping hair on my head and off my back . Seriously, I think the hairstyles that complement the body best are the ones that don't draw attention to the head-- i.e. keep it short. No need to go to a buzz cut, but any hair that's so long it covers the shoulders detracts in my opinion. For example, Fabio should of had his hair cut long ago... |
| |||
I'm the last person who should respond to this thread, since I haven't had a hair cut in about a year, and I haven't had short hair in maybe 3 or 4 years, but I have to agree that short hair is the way to go (unless you're young and really want to know what it feels like to be pulling strands of hair out of your ass-crack). The shorter, the better, if only because if you don't like it, it will grow out eventually. Or, you could go my route and do the long hair thing. I've got a dark braid and a long, bushy-ish beard...I'm kind of going for the viking/punk/alternative look right now. In another year, I'll cut the hair off, donate it to one of those "wigs for cancer patients" charities, and go back to looking "normal". |
| |||
Gee Magnus I don't know, maybe the long hair could be a way of bonding... Just imagine how much fun it would be for the partner, "hmm...looks like you got some more stray hair in your ass crack--I'll have to help you pull them out " __________________ -ottomun6- It's time to stop sitting on the sidelines and get in there! |

Hairy post Mmmhh... I'm letting my hair grow now, mostly because I HATE having my hair cut so I'm just waiting for it to be long enough for me to tie it up in a ponytail and then forget about it (except for washing, because I also detest oily hair). The problem is that the guy who last cut my hair cut the sides too short so I have to use hair clips in order to keep my hair from puffing up (I have curly hair =P). But I think that while short hair is easier to groom, long hair can give you a kind of look.. I dunno, depends how long. Brad Pitt looks good with long hair, Viggo (drool) does too! But the most important thing is that when you look in the mirror you're comfortable with what you see. After all, F.E.s are on the eye of the beholder and you can't please everyone. ~Ashley __________________ My problem is that I construct fanciful ideals next to which everything in my life seems dull and artificial. |

FE II I'm a "no guard up the sides, finger-width on top" type guy myself....but the long-term fantasy here is to shave my head. If my maternal grandfather is any indication, that's the ONLY way I will ever be bald! |
| |||
Your maternal grandfather isn't any indication...you'd want to look at your maternal grandmother's brothers...the baldness gene is passed down through the mother, so your grandfather had nothing to do with it. |

Good point about the genetics involved. As for the shaved head option. It's a bit more acceptable now having lost it's "skinhead" association (thank you Captain Picard). On the other hand, head shaving has seemed to take on the appearance of a fad that may or may not last. Personally I think it's a good look for some people. However, if you can still grow hair then strange bumps, odd ledges, and overall unusual shapes might be better covered. From the fact that natural baldness is widespread I see no reason to not shave completely. It sometimes looks a hell of a lot better than "combing over" which I think is totally weird. If you're bald, you're bald! Don't try to fool me with a few silly strands or a toupee. Too much emphasis on hair! Promulgated by people who make money dealing with hair. Besides, a bald head can be very sensual for both participants. Last edited by LeatherGryphon; May 16th, 2004 at 08:18 AM. |

Where are our brittish members? It seems like most hair trends start in the UK, then move to countries like the EU, Australia & New Zealand, then eventually end up here in the US last. So we need help identifying fashions from members outside the US. Beyond that, although the, "70's porn-star" look's recent success, I way prefer short hair. I think that the shaved bald with a goatee, is a great look, especially if you have a great body. Although I like long hair, it has been out of style for a good 8 years now. It takes a lot of work, and you must care for long hair. My husband had long hair when I met him, and I think it was one of the things that caught my eye about him (also his pecs...) but now I think it would just look dated to me. Sorry Magnus. Also, if you have curly hair, long hair is a complete pain, I tried to grow mine out, and it was horrible. Long hair is best left to people with straight hair IMHO. I think it's most efficient to buy a pair of clippers & save your money for supplements & gym fees. That's my 2?. __________________ God is in the rain. |

From The Magus: "Your maternal grandfather isn't any indication...you'd want to look at your maternal grandmother's brothers...the baldness gene is passed down through the mother, so your grandfather had nothing to do with it. " Great, I'm still doomed to a life with a full head of hair....LOL. I think the look I want, though, is as Brent put it....shaved head with goatee....very WOOF, especially with a great bod under it. Now to keep working on the bod...... |
| |||
I think I must have been on holiday when the UK became the world capital of hairsyles, but if anyone's interested short definitely seems to be the way to go this year. Just enough hair so that you don't have to polish your scalp everyday would be about right. I have to agree about the comb overs though, they just look stupid. All it takes is a gentle breeze in the wrong direction and everyone knows the truth. Give it up and shave it off! |

Quote:
The recessive, defective gene that causes balding, is located on the X chromosome. (quick overview of the sex chromosomes: XX = Women; XY = Men) Women have two X chromosomes so if they happen to have that gene, it is usually overruled by the other probably normal X chromosome because the gene is functioning normally and is dominant over the bad one. Men, on the otherhand, have only one X chromosome and the Y (oh, that lovely Y!) is kinda puny. It has sparse genetic data on it because it really is just a tiny little thing. It doesn't say anything about balding versus no balding at all, thus, it has no dominant gene to overide a bad gene on the X chromosome that says "He shall be bald!" So, here is where I get to the point. Women get their X chromosomes from BOTH of their parents, one X from each, while men get theirs from only their mother. Thus, for a man to have a bad X chromosome that says he will be bald, he must have gotten it from his mother because his father never gave him an X chromosome, only a Y chromosome. But what about his mother? Well, if she is like most women, she must have had at least one bad X. Or she had two, in which case, she is going to go bald herself . She could have gotten that bad one from EITHER her mother OR her father. Her mother likewise got it from either parent as well. Thus, both maternal grandparents matter. I rest my case, goodnight, I hope I have been coherent. I will say on the subject of hairstyles: it really depends on the person. (oh, funny thing, this whole "where'd the X come from?" thing is also true for some kinds of colorblindness) __________________ just my thoughts as a writer Things happen. sexisculptor, I bet you were just WAITING for a chance to tell us about chromosomes and genes weren't you ? Well, now I know who to to talk to when this subject comes up. __________________ -ottomun6- It's time to stop sitting on the sidelines and get in there! |

What about an 80's look? Has anyone ever seen a bodybuilder with a "New Romantic" hairstyle like Duran Duran wore in their first video, "Planet Earth?" (From what I've seen, this type of style is somewhat longish in the back, pulled down just above or even over the eyes in front, and, in many cases, puffed up HUGE, either dyed or bleached in various colors, etc.) I'm working on a muscle growth story right now where the two main characters INSIST on wearing "New Romantic"-type hairstyles and outfits (with a twist or two, and with some exceptions, just for the fun of it!), and grow into HUGE muscle teens, so if anyone has any pictures anywhere near that description, I'd LOVE to see 'em! Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance! GlamLeatherPunk |

going post-crazy! new toy!anyway,finally got the nerve to shave my head 2yrs.ago.always liked it on other people,but was afraid i might have a lumpy head.worked out great!looks good first thing in the morning;in the wind;after a hat!bad in sleet.i was moving towards the fabulous"reverse Mohawk"before that.(i.e,hair on sides,nothing on top)small head mkes your body look bigger!but if you've got good hair;work it while you've got it! |

The David Beckham faux-hawk was popular, but is now being transformed into various guises. Personally, I am fond of a punk variation on the New Romantic do, i.e. cropped sides with a slight asymmetric ridge running from the back left of my head to the top right. |

*starts chanting* Mullet! Mullet! Mullet!! *runs* |

Hel-lo...? "David Beckham faux-hawk", "Slightly asymetric", "New Romantic", "Duran Duran", Like this is so cool... Y' gotta love the new batch of butch men. |
| |||
I am currently a fan of the faux hock, but I think I am quickly tiring of it. I am intrigued to see what a buff New Romantic would look like. Mostly because they seem like opposites. __________________ God is in the rain. |

The new batch of butch men At the risk of being made fun of, here are pics of my neo-mullet. I don't know if I am in the class of men prevalent in this forum, but I'm giving it my best shot to look like a buff neo-romantic, well, the look has become more metrosexual punk lately. I await the slings and criticisms of having declared myself a muscle-fairy. |

Hello Flexus Lee, Nice body, nice face, nice skin, smart... and you spent how much on that haircut? If my barber gave me that haircut I'd ask for my money back. Just kidding, you can look anyway you want, but make sure you keep the photos for twenty years from now when you need a reminder of the crazy things that kids do. It's called "neo-ohmygoddididothatism". At least you don't have a piece of metal through your tongue knocking enamel off your teeth. Do you? |

If you want a real laugh, perhaps I can find a photo of me as a toothpick skinny, 18 year old with a big butt, wearing flair leg vertically striped pants, high heeled boots, a paisley rayon pirate shirt, with a white silk scarf, and shoulder length curly (frizy) hair. "ohmygoddididothat" |

I like the avatar, LG, that's a good choice for you. Right now my hair's longer than it's been in years. It's still short but not my usual # 2 buzzcut. Last time I had it cut (3-4 weeks ago) I told him to do the sides but not the top, just to be different. It's grown out enough now that I can kinda whoosh it up and over in the front (Kinda like Flexus Lee without the mullet...) I figure a slight modification every 7-8 years is probably not pushing it much! :-) xoxo rpj |

Hair! I really, really like that hairdo, Flexus Lee. It looks really good (on you, at least). I like weird hairdos and stuff, but it takes a certain amount of confidence (and crazyness) to pull one off. Otherwise you just look silly. I always wanted to dye my hair blue or purple but I know my mom would take out the scissors and cut it off so I'll have to wait (why did I not do it while I was living alone in the US? ~smacks self~). At least odd-colored highlights (Aqua or bright pink). While I?m young, at school, and not worrying about what the person hiring me will think of me. ~Ashley __________________ My problem is that I construct fanciful ideals next to which everything in my life seems dull and artificial. |

Back in '95 I left Washington DC and ended up in San Francisco after a 9,000 mile motorcycle trip across the US and Canada (Yeah, I know, the US is only 3,000 miles wide. So you know I either had a good time or was desperately lost). I was in the "Hole In The Wall" (a grungy leather bar) south of Market St. and met a really hot young guy about 4 or 5 inches taller than me, muscles, inviting smile, and hot pink short mohawk style hair. Long slimy story but it was one of the best times I had in SF for a couple of days. Adds a new meaning to the phrase "hair brush" Woof! Last edited by LeatherGryphon; May 31st, 2004 at 10:17 AM. |

Hey Flexus Lee - Don't take any crap about your hair. I personally think it looks damn good! Thanks for sharing your photos. I never feel like I do a good job of pulling off any hair style myself! And yikes, per a pact I made with a friend, I'm going to lose my long hair next week! ARGH!!! |
