Which Series? MuscleChestLove, which TV series do you want? I'm going to guess the most recent one "Lois and Clark" and that Superman was Dean Cain, who is currently hosting "Ripley's Believe or Not" I believe... The "classic" Superman from TV is the late George Reeves--not to be confused with Christopher Reeve of movie fame--his show was on in the 50s. Now for the trivia question--before Tom Welling, can anyone name the two actors who played "Superboy" on tv? Hint, they were both on the same series--but the first Clark/Kal/Superboy got replaced during the run. __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

The "Superboy" show was a syndicated show in the US at least that was about the adventures of Superman when he was a boy--or in this case a teen. It was more of a traditional "superhero" show as Clark's powers where already pretty much developed and he had the costume. It wasn't nearly as slick or well done as Smallville is--the show was on in the early eightiies I thihk... __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

Early ninties. |

According to Internet Movie Database, Superboy ran from 1988 to 1992 in first-run syndication. The title role (Clark Kent as a college student/fledgling superhero) was played by John Haymes Newton the first season and by Gerard Christopher thereafter. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094559/ BTW, I think one of the hottest moments ever was in a first-season episode when Superboy (Newton) was in disguise and revealed himself (not completely ) to the villain who cried "You?". Superboy grinned cockily and said "Me!" and then used his super-breath to blow the villain out of the frame. __________________ Pondering another literary endeavour. |

Who Was Better? I stand corrected on the decade--I guess they all just mix together after a while So, do we dare start a discussion on who the "better" Superboy was? __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

Whoa! I think I must have mentally blocked out the Superboy series. I even did a google search to review the actors (can't say that helped much either) Lois and Clark stood out so much, I must have wiped all recollection of Superboy out of my memory. Maybe because Superboy ended and Lois and Clark started up pretty close together (Hmm, maybe I was just abducted by aliens and they erased that part of my memory) __________________ -ottomun6- It's time to stop sitting on the sidelines and get in there! |

Well, since we seem to have solved all the recent "Superboy" mysteries--should we delve into the early filmed adventures of "Superman" can anyone name the "original" man of steel on film--he even had a cameo in "Superman: the movie" and a pretty decent build in his prime.... And, I haven't looked it up yet to be sure, but I think there may have even be another "Superboy" back in the 40s or so.... __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

That would be Kirk Alyn, who played the Man of Steel onscreen in 1948 (and on radio). He had a cameo in 1978's Superman: The Movie , playing young Lois Lane's father--with Noelle Neill (Lois Lane II from the '50s TV series) playing Lois' mother. There was an unsold pilot for a Superboy TV series filmed in 1961. Superboy also appeared in segments of Filmation's late '60s animated Superman series. Oh, and I thought John Haymes Newton was way hotter than Gerard Christopher. Tom Welling is beautiful, but we have yet to see how he fills out the tights! __________________ Pondering another literary endeavour. |

Gosh, so many Superman fans on one site--and it's not even dedicated to comic books. Rockhopper, I'm impressed by the thoroughness of you answer --either you really know your stuff or you're good at "googling!" And, alas, it sounds like we will never see Welling in tights as it goes against the producers intent for the show. But, I understand that haven't cast the role of Superman for the new movie yet.... __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |
| |||
A little bit of both, actually. Although I'd recommend Internet Movie Database over Google for this kind of search. As for never getting to see Tom Welling in the tights, well, I've always sort of figured that the final shot of the final episode of the final season will be of Clark flying off in costume for the first time! __________________ Pondering another literary endeavour. |

Well Rockhopper, we can only wait and see. I understand that the show is going well enough that the producers are already planning for Clark's going off to college. Wonder how big Welling will be by then ? __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

Oh my, if Tom Welling packs on more size as he grows into manhood, I'm going to have a tough time behaving myself Imagine if he were in college and the coach wants him to beef up for college level football? What if the writers eventually take the show all the way into "Metropolis"? with a throughly buffed up hero sized "Superman"? __________________ -ottomun6- It's time to stop sitting on the sidelines and get in there! |

Sorry to burst the bubble... Quote:
http://tomwelling.com/tom/profile.shtml But, all is not lost, since he clearly has shown an ability to pack on some muscle (if you remember him from "Judging Amy" he was quite thin) and the character of Clark Kent will have some growing to do no doubt in college! But I don't think he would play football. And, I think I saw something somewhere today that 'Smallville' might be followed by 'Metropolis.' Of course, there is a new movie in the works so who knows. __________________ "You can never be too rich or too big!" |

Sorry for bringing back such an old thread... but I think this pic needs to be shone: Yummy... especially when you actually watch the episode. He is out of breath and he breaths really hard and his abs look amazing. |

I can't see the image. |
