hernia So I found out today that I have an inguinal hernia on my left side. I am scheduled for surgery on Dec 9th. The Doc said 4 weeks minimum lay off from lifting. I'm pretty bummed about it and I'm still not sure what I did to cause it. Maybe my core wasn't as strong as I thought. Anyone else been through this? |

Not myself personally, but my father had one fixed back in October. He also wasn't sure what caused it. And even though your doctor said 4 weeks, the first two, you ain't gonna be able to do anything; especially the first three or four days after your surgery. Trust me, you will need family and friends to help you merely get out of your chair. They're gonna have to stay with you for those first few days for most everything. So the thing to remember is this: Don't overexert yourself in the least, especially on the first week, or else you will highly regret it. __________________ In the MGS FC's I am Psycho Mantis! Hoosierlifter, Yes, I've had two hernia operations. The first hernia was inguinal - on the right side of my groin area. The second hernia resulted from squatting 600 lbs. The second hernia actually protuded through my navel... it was the weakest part of my stomac at the time. Both operations were done via laproscopic methods and I would highly recommend that you investigate laproscopic vs. the traditional method. When it came time for the second operation, I did further investigation and found one of the best surgeon's in the country do the surgery. Fortunately, I have absolutely no visible scar from the second operation. As a bodybuilder this was extremely important. Be sure you rest after surgery and keep your diet high in protein to help with recovery. Bulkinupbig |

The best way to avoid a hernia is to strengthen your core muscles, ab work which is tedious is one of the best ways, also lifts such as heavy deadlifts are good once you have a strong core. There are lots of yoga moves the really strengthen your core muscles. |

Thanks! I am having laproscopic done. The surgeon said it would leave the smallest scar and they can check both sides. I talked to a friend, who is a nurse, and he had the same procedure done a year ago. He told me that recovery isn't that bad, but to be sure and take it VERY easy the first 2 weeks. |
