unusual "compliments"

Hey, another lurker here who's visited regularly but not posted before. Its been great to find others so into muscle and I've enjoyed reading about the muscle encounters - I always have an eye out too. Also liked the awesome pics that the incredibly talented morph artists here have created.
So I thought it's time for my first post. I've had a couple of situations recently where people said something that I took as a compliment that were kinda odd, that thinking back on it, not everyone would have seen it as a compliment.
I was walking out of work at lunch and a friend was outside waiting on others. He said "Man, you're getting as big as a house! You look like the Incredible HulK!" I have definitely put on some muscle in the past 6-8 months, but at 5'11", 216, I don't consider myself all that big, so I was incredibly flattered by this remark. I was grinning from ear-to-ear when I got into my car.
About a week before that, I was at a party (of course wearing a close fitting t-shirt). A drunk guy I knew from the gym I go to started talking about my bicep so I flexed for him. This other guy I used to go to the gym with a couple years back, said "Awww, it just looks like a big water balloon!". He was trying to insult me, implying that I had no definition, but I was thrilled! I ignored his remark, but I wanted to say "Thank you very much!"
Anyway, not so sure you guys find this all that interesting, but for me, these kinds of happenings make all this hard work in training, dieting and cardio worthwhile.

James, thank you for posting. At 5'11 & 216 lbs. you must be a big guy, and obviously you are getting bigger so fast that other guys at your gym are getting jealous! I'm with you taking them both as compliments. Congratulations on your recent growth, I hope you will be a regular member here, and maybe even post some pics?

Hey, thanks; although I sure want to get bigger, I have made good progress in the past couple years. I did get over 190 lbs about two years ago (for the first time in my life to be over 190 and not fat, but lean with some muscle), but then had shoulder surgery. I was still in good shape after the surgery, but more in an athletic build sort of way not very big and was down to 178 (October '02). I was 192 in October '03 and peaked at 216 last month (I'm focusing on getting a little leaner now, so I've lost a few pounds the past few weeks).

Thanks for stepping up James35.
Your experience was inspiring, I know you HAVE to feel good about getting bigger muscles!! Its probably safe to say almost ALL of us want to have bigger muscles (even the guys with 21" biceps). Its always awesome to have others notice the growth (and have it confirmed later on by clothes getting tighter).
Welcome into the pool!

Get Used to It!

Hey James35,
Better get used to those comments, something tells me that you're pretty dedicated and will be making some impressive gains soon. I wish I got that 'water balloon' comment--that's a great one!

Welcome to the 'non-lurking' side of the world.

You guys are really cool! I appreciate the compliments and I still enjoy reading about other's experiences. I've got a good picture of myself from last month when I was at my biggest. It was taken with my new digital camera so it's good quality. I'm trying to locate a pic from 2 years ago that was taken after my surgery so you can see the comparison. I can't find it though; once I do, I'll post them both.

James

AWESOME story man... sorry to come in late on this one....

That would be so killer to hear someone say that your bicep looks like a water balloon and knowing that they said it out of jealousy... talk about an ego boost.

Right on!!!

I love the comments people make out of jealousy. They tend to be totally random & bizarre. Don't they?

Hey, I can't find that old picture that I've been looking for, but I thought I'd go ahead and post a recent picture. This one is from mid June when I was at my heaviest - it's definitely the best picture I have. I'm using one with my shirt on since, believe me, you do NOT want to see my abs when I'm at the end of a bulking up cycle.
(Remember I'm 216 not 250 [yet] so keep those expectations under control)
Hope this works!

Wow! Your arms are really large, and your chest looks huge too in that shirt. What size is it?
<JEALOUSY>
Well, maybe not that big, in fact I think they might be just a couple of water balloons under a shirt!
</JEALOUSY>

Thank you for sharing. I hope we will get to see you with your shirt off, and that you will become a regular contributor!

Brent.
