SInce when was WWE into promoting bodybuilding shows? |

WhoDunIt: There was a brief (i.e., no more than about 18 months) period in the late 80s / early 90s when Vince McMahon and the (at that time) WWF made a detour through bodybuilding, hoping to boost the sport's popularity through pro-wrestling theatrics. They stole about half a dozen pro bb'ers, including both Quinns (Jim and Mike), Gary Strydom, and a couple of others, out from under Weider, and put on at least one show, launched a magazine (as I recall), etc. Bombed, of course, and pretty miserably. Turns out bb'ing really IS a sport and putting your guys out there on a schedule, well, not all of them were in the best shape on stage. I think it's pretty obvious, though, that it influenced later developments (e.g., product endorsements and supplement company "storylines" a la AnimalPak's "Wrath" and "House" and whatever.) I'm betting that's enough history for today, eh? xoxo Richard |

I don't draw this conclusion from the WBF; I don't think they showed that BB is a sport at all since their publicity seemed much more centered on entertainment and pagentry than anything else. Also the WBF bodybuilders all had to go on the official WBF diet, which I think was some kind of no-carb thing kind of like a high-protein South Beach diet. Some of them (Strydom) apparently stuck with it and looked great while others looked more like football players than bodybuilders (i.e. not at all ripped). |

Thanks, this was "news" to me, I've never been into wrestling but knew enough that this looked pretty scripted along the lines of WWF/E. Quote:

It's quite cool for the time it was done! The only thing I don't like about him is the pony tail __________________ Fuertesyrobustos.com - Crecimiento muscular en espa?ol |
