Headscarf issue question Hey, guys: I'm just curious about all the media coverage related to the 'head scarf ban' in French schools. When I first read about the proposed law last year the article stated that it was not specific to scarves. It was the intent of the legislation to ban ostentatious or visible signs of religion in schools. This would have included headscarves, yarmulkes as well as crucifixes/stars worn outside shirts. Is the law specific to scarves? Or is the US media just attempting to vilify French lawmakers? |

coverage here (the NY Times)made it clear the law was "all ostentatious religious symbols".the issue,of course,is how it is enforced.French muslim clerics have condemned the kidnapping&threatened execution of French nationals as a protest to the law. |

Glammaman: Thanks for the clarification. It seems odd that the media would add fuel to the fire by continuing to refer to only the headscarf aspect of the law. |
