First sighting on TV

One of my first muscle sighting on TV has got to be Jack LaLanne. I just remember being mesmerized by those huge arms and that wide V-taper. Come to think of it, I probably did a few dips as a kid. Maybe that primed my arms to grow later in life

andromass is on a distinguished road
You're dating yourself if you say you remember Jack LaLanne (sp?) from his days on TV. The dude is 90.

Hm... well, I am not sure if this counts or not but I remember the Superboy series from TV in the late 1980's. As young as I was then, I still thought John Haymes Newton was hot as Superboy. Sure, the second one was a better actor, but the first one had the bod and the look.

LOL I saw him as a re-run. In fact, he's still pumping up those 19"(?) guns in black and white. But his lower body looked comparatively small. I wonder what he would have looked like if he were a 25 year old bodybuilder today? I figure he would have 21" biceps and a pair of 30" thighs

Jack was definitely the first muscular guy I remember seeing. I wanted to "look like that!" So I started doing some of the exercises he was demonstrating -- I was ALL of 4 or 5 years old at the time. My next younger brother (we were stairsteps) started laughing and saying, "Mommy, Mommy, Ricky is EXCERCISING." She nodded and said, "Well, good for him!" but I was totally mortified. It was literally 21 years old before I could actually pick up a weight in public (we had a barbell set at home that I used in secret, from time to time. Hard to do in a 1000 sq foot house containing five people!)

Why was I so horrendously self-conscious about it? I still have no clue.

xoxo

richard

PS:

Jack was born September 26, 1914, in San Francisco, so he just turned 90. His "Jack LaLanne Show" debuted in 1951 and apparently ran for 34 years!
