Detoxing?

I heard an ad on the radio tonight from an area GNC where the gal was talking about "detoxing" your liver and some of the "advanages" of as well as some of the products this GNC in question carries. What are your guys thoughts, snake oil or worth trying?

Weird..

We must have had the same rep! Although at the time, my GNC rep was selling the detox materials as something to be used to clean out traces of steroids. Have no idea if any of it works, though.

Exclamation Sensing a Snake Oil product

If 'Detox' is meant Diet detoxification, then I assure you guys to put a few pinches of salt regarding this fad. The 'toxins' removed are usually undefined and are ascribed to foods, the environment and the body's own wastes. There is no scientific basis for the hypothesis.

Look up for Penn and Teller's 'detox' episode.

Anyway, isn't that liver, kidneys and the entire digestive system's job to do such waste management? If you are eating healthy, there's no need for such products anyway.

Most people use a prune juice detox diet, to fully clear out their intestines. Some uses water and juice that contain celery, celery helps in the body's elimination of carbon dioxide. After the detoxification process, eat food containing acidophilus, this can help to go back good bacteria in your colon that was loss during the detox. This can be found in yogurts and cheeses.

Basically, detoxification is the process of removing impurities from the blood in the liver where toxins and other impurities are processed for elimination. It is about resting, cleaning and nourishing the body from the inside out. Most of the activities for detoxification involved a natural ways of detoxing such as resting the organs through fasting, stimulates the liver to drive toxins away from the body, and eliminate alcohol, caffeine containing foods, and refined and saturated fats from the diet. Also detox stressful situations by practicing meditation. In this ways you can attain a natural ways of detoxifying your physical as well as mental aspects of your body.

You can buy some milk thistle to clean out your liver. Drink about 2-3 gallons of water a day, and take about 3 benadryls at night and a few fibre pills.

Keep your salt really low and eat some sauerkraut or cabbage soup for a bout a week and you'll be totally cleaned out.

According to me,there is no switch for a healthy diet and regular exercise when it comes to losing weight and staying well ? and if you?re eating well most of the time, there is easily no need to get caught up in the detoxing bug come the start of each new year.

The problem as you can see is the many widely varied definitions of what detoxing actually is.

In the sport of bodybuilding there is no such thing as a detox for use of a/s for the most part. Also that kind of detox would be dependent on what you had used so that one would be for the most part a "wash". There is nothing that will make these substances undetectable if the right testing procedures are used.

When it comes to liver detox there are a number of supplements that are available OTC very cheaply that will assist in this and they are available in a gazillion places on the net.

Then there are individuals who try to advertise the enema as if it were the greatest invention known to mankind.

There at absolute worst is a little moron pencil mustached guy who shows up on late night infomercials named Klee Irwin. He has made claims on television that are so preposterous that he has been a target for investigation and told to cease and end his deceptive advertising multiple times. He claims that the late John Wayne had something like 40lb of dried fecal matter in his intestines on death. Wayne died in California, how did Mr Irwin get John Waynes intestines to measure the quantity of fecal matter. To the best of my knowledge there was no otopsy on Wayne because the cause of his passing was known. We don't go in and measure the fecal matter in intestines just as a routine practice in medicine after death.

The best way to detox without going broke is to do your homework on the internet from legitimate sources.

Eat healthy food, eat fiber, plenty of liquids to flush kidneys, plenty of sleep and if you do things right for the most part cleansing or detox will not be necessary.

If in fact there is a problem it can be taken care of easily using common available products by need, not at some pre set interval.

Watch your wallet on this one, there are a number of people who will use this to raid your funds when in fact their claims cannot be substantiated as stated.

Thanks again Fuzzy, I kinda got the impression of what you said in the otehr posts, even though I'm usually pretty skeptical on things like this any way.
