Groin Strain and tennis

I just had my first tennis lesson, but I could really feel it in my groin area.
I told my tennis instructor and he said the next time I should wear a jockstrap.
I played football in high school and wore a cup.
But do I really need to wear a jockstrap?
I am no weekend athlete. I work out about 3 times a week: lifiting, swimming and cardio.

With tennis, you do a lot of side motions with both legs out to the side. This is similar to drills you do for basketball. They are sort of like doing sideways open legged squats, bouncing sideways. The muscles on the inside of your thighs, (abductors?) are being used and stretched. That is what hurts.

You'll live. As you use the muscles, they will get stronger and stop being sore.

Give Pete Sampras a run for his money!

I didn't get that kind of pain when i took my tennis class. I agree with mdlftr the soreness will go away with time. Have fun, tennis is a great sport!
