Brandon Hancock is huge. Besides playing football for USC, he is an bodybuilder as a hobby. There was an article about him in Sports Illustrated, when he first went to USC (high school football palyers who are 240lbs of muscle generate a stir). In the article he talks about getting fitted for his prom. He mentions that when he tried on the tuxedo pants there was no way they were going to fit over his massive thighs and butt; he had to wear black dress pants that he already had tailored to his monstrous physique.

Agreed, he looks good. He was featured in Muscle Mag Int'l. a few issues back, as a student athlete. They had the picture of him in street clothes that is featured on the website link.

He also holds the Trojans' team-best bench press title at 430 pounds. Unfortunately, right after he set that record, he suffered a pec tear while attempting 440 pounds. Between that and a knee injury (ACL tear), he had to sit out the 2004 football season.

It sounds like Brandon is back for the season and will challenge for the starting role at fullback. His weight is listed at 230. I don't know how accurate that is. His neck looks to be about 20"--what a bull! Let's keep an eye on his progress....

There is just so much to say here. It is very doubtful that many openly gay people behave this way. Someone forced to stay in the closet, like many sports figures, may act out in socially inappropriate ways.

As for lockroom behavior, I have a story I recall from LPSG.org. A straight member of LPSG who worked out at a gym was harrassed by another straight gym member. Using a camera phone, the less endowed man photographed the horse-hung guy naked in the lockroom. The photo was sent anonymously to the man's wife with the comment, "You are so lucky." The point of this story is that inappropriate behavior is not limited to the gay community. Many people are insecure in their bodies -- size, strength, shape, endowment, etc -- and act out because of their insecurities.

I think Thomas's post was inappropriate. The behavior he's talking about is wrong on many levels. It is an invasion of privacy and theft. It was also wrong to make it a gay/straight thing. Such behavior would probably be motivated more by money than sexual orientation, unless the person is deeply conflicted/frustrated by being forced to hide their orientation.

I think it was also wrong of newmus to claim that homophobia is justifiable based upon thomas's comments.

not once did i say that homophobia is justifiable, however, we are hated by certain segments of the population because they believe that we are discusting (that's putting it mildly). in many cases these beliefs are as ignorant as the belief that black people have tails (amazingly some people really believe that one), but that doesn't mean that we should give them proof of such erroneos beliefs. thomas' post did that.
we are not in some little bubble were we can say and do how ever we feel because no outsiders are around (many black people act that way, hence the hypocritical n-word crap) i don't know how many of you guys frequent other muscle sites that have a lot of anti-gay people but i do and every now and then some one sees stuff like thomas' post and all i can do is just sit there and read. i guess what i'm trying to say in short is, let's not give them cannon fodder.

As I've said before, this site is a gay-friendly space. Yet, there are still people here who quite obviously are acting out because of repressed sexual desires.

Yes, I visit other sites where homophobia runs rampant. Often, the homophobic members point to inappropriate harassment from someone of the same sex to justify their homophobia. What I think you need to understand is that that is just an excuse and that the homophobia would be there even without the perceived harassment.

Consider one common scenerio. A person posts pictures of himself on a public forum. He is an attractive man and begins to receive private messages asking about the picture. If the PM is from a woman, the receiver deals with the PM one way (e.g. sends another picture, responds politely that he isn't interested, etc). If the PM is from a man, however, the receiver goes off the deep end complaining about gays sending him messages. This is a perfect example of just this scenerio (and not only has this particular person posted pictures on the public forum, he has also bragged about his sexual prowess). While this guy says he "doesn't have any problems with gays", believe me, he does. Miss Manners would tell him the proper response is not to call for "queers" who send inappropriate messages to be "banned", but to simply state that he appreciates the fact that people find him attractive, but that he is not gay.

Rather than blaming the homophobia on posts like Thomas's (which seems a lot like blaming the victim), you might want to both point out to Thomas why his post is inappropriate and challenge any resulting homophobia as the irrational hatred that it is.

I hate to be a downer, but it looks like this guy is losing a bit, wasent he reported at more than 250 a year or two ago? Hopefully he is in fact still gaining and hopefully, by the time he graduates, passes well beyond 250. It would be a waste of good genitics to only reach 230.
