movie revew:Alexander

it's not quite as bad as you've heard.actually,if they cut EVERY SINGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE it'd be pretty good.Angelina Jolie wandered in from another movie;but acting overall is good.battle scenes are great.it's pretty to look at,with some strange set decoration(sculptures look wrong;&there's a map tracing Alexander's exploits in every room of everybody's house.)lots of handsome men;&the homosexuality throughout is treated very matter-of-factly.(although you don't get to see them"doin' it")

Even though not released in the UK until next month

I understand that the BBC's Dead Ringers team are planning a send up of it for their Christmas / New Year special replacing the stars with people like Tony Blair and George Bush

Alexander the Great

I confess that I was your typical student listening to the history teacher drone on about Alexander the Great...blah...blah ..blah. But I recently watched his expolits on the History channel. I can now say WOW! this guy was a super over achiver! He conquered 20,000 miles of territory by foot in 12 years?
It seemed like everything was destined to be his. Even with overwhelming odds.
They say that to this day, many commanders have compared themselves to his accomplishments, but no one even comes close.
I guess I should have stayed awake that day in class.

Saw Alexander today. It was OK, the three hours went by fast enough but according to what I saw on the big screen in comparison to what I've been reading and seeing on TV documentaries, the history in the movie was a bit muddy.

It did however have lots of blood and guts, gallons of blood real or digital, and a whole table full of bovine guts being read to predict the future I guess.

I really wanted to see how they handled the burning of Babylon but they wimped out and didn't even do it. Unless it happened during my pee break. Don't think so though, he was already out of Babylon and crossing the Hindu Kush when I felt the call of nature.

There were several places where you said to yourself "wait a minute, what just happened, how'd we get here?" The cutting room floor must be covered with all the obviously missing connections.

Greatest military story of all time and it just doesn't come through in this movie. Very one-dimensional characters. It could have been better.

Good movie for the adventure crowd though, but I predict it will hit DVD real quick and fade into obscurity along with "Troy".

Hmm... would that imply that the international audience is more, or less, discerning than US audiences? :-o
