Baa Humbug The nativity play in England is as much part of Christmas as bread queues in Tesco's, or appalling tv shows that we've all seen hundreds of times before. Can anyone remember a year when they didn't show the Queen's speech? Exactly. It could all do with updating, and if Jackass did a nativity play, it would probably end up like this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...ds/4080623.stm |

I hope whoevever was in the sheep costume is OK. On the other hand, we American's aren't safe from this sort of crap either. Everywhere you go they pipe carols into the sound system. We even have several "A;; Christmass carols, all the time" radio stations here in Las Vegas. __________________ God is in the rain. |

The guy will be fine, he'll just be standing up for a while! One of the shopping centres here began playing carols in October. It gets more ridiculous every year. Now the government department that I work for has decided that we can no longer have Christmas because its not politically correct. So instead we're having a religious festival. Now there have been complaints from Atheists! Its all too tempting to tell them where to shove their religious festival cake. Roll on January. |

i must say,... PUBLIC dislays for christmas in NYC have gotten more subdued over the years.except for a few stores;they're pretty good about waiting until Thanksgiving(used to go up right after Halloween) |

BTW, for those people outside N. America, Thanks Giving is a holiday on the 3rd Thursday of November. We are supposed to give thanks to God that the native Americans didn't know how evil white people would be, and that they gave us food. So that we could get the colonies large enough to wipe them out for their earlier generosity. Thank you! __________________ God is in the rain. |

Christmas.. ah yes. The season that never seems to end. In fact I think that's why they've started "Christmas in July" It is obviously a marketing scheme to create a 6 month "need" to buy stuff for Christmas. Every year I think people start earlier and earlier putting Christmas Decorations up and buying gifts. The one exception.... clothes. I was talking to a lady yesterday and she mentioned that she waits till it gets closer to Christmas since she never quite knows what size pants to buy for the men in her family (apparently they've been getting a tad thicker in the waist). Anyways... weird tangent.. I hope the guy is alright though... people do stupid things to people (and to themselves sometimes) __________________ In a world of old memories... Ironically, I went out and bought $50 worth of Christmas decorations today. It's very festive around our apartment now! PS I would be an expert at "doing stupid things to one's self! __________________ God is in the rain. |

Christmas prep Brent, ILMFAO when I read your take on Thanksgiving! It reminded me of an old "Peanuts" cartoon discussion of Christmas. Lucy (the Fussbudget) is explaining Christmas to her little brother Linus (with the security blanket). She explains that "Christmas is run by a big Eastern Syndicate (ironically the name of the corp that distributes the "Peanuts" strip) which blankets the airwaves with ads for toys so parents will spend on their money. Santa Claus is head of marketing, and he flies through the air to deliver toys to houses where the parents have spent money. In the background, Charlie Brown, who experiences severe stomach pain whenever he hears one of Lucy's dumb explanations, is seen bending over going, "Ow, ow ow!" Ah, yes, the simple joys of the season...... I spent the weekend throwing out 4 strings of old lights, which had been carefully saved in a box since at least 1975, which half worked! Yes, saving strings of broken Christmas lights! Some traditions NEVER change! HO HO HO Mdlftr |
