Does working out make you taller?

I have been going to the gym lately and i feel a little taller. I didn't know if working out is supposed to release more hormones or something. Does it? Also as a side story, I got on the leg press machine just for fun to try it out. I put the weight at 200. Light. I got up all the way to 390. I did 10 reps and could have gone longer and more weight, but 390 was the max! Felt great!

Taller, no.

Better posture, yes.

On a side note, what happens is your bones get thicker to support the muscle, this may also add some height, but not enough to be worth mentioning.

I would imagine that part of the answer depends somewhat on your age. Young people may still be growing a bit.

On the other hand older people could actually get shorter due to compression of cartilige between the spine bones (I know I did).

Also, improved self-image can be part of the answer.

However, as mentioned by someone above, I suspect that improved posture is the biggest reason for feeling taller.
