I've never tracked how much I can eat, but I do live in the land of the all you can eat buffets...

Well....about a month ago, my brother had his 21st b-day (ooh, fun)

anyways, his Fiance (...ah, screw spelling) ordered, get this, 20 Cheese pizzas. of course, there were 20 people there ,so, she figured why not a pizza per person...)

The pizzas were HUUUGE! The Pizzeria she got them from made the pizzas extra large instead of large (No extra charge, though). I mean, you know the New Yorker Pizza from Pizza Hut? about 3 inches bigger

Anyways, these huge pizzas weren't getting eaten, so, i decided to help. All throughout the night, i must've eaten 4-5 pizza pies! ....but i was sick the next day...apparently i have a slight allergy to tomatoes....

^^; my bad

well - I can't beat 4-5 full extra-large pizzas. I have certainly eaten my fair share of excesses of food in one sitting to earn my "garbage disposal" title.... but not quite that much.

My eating habits are becoming infamous, but mainly because I'm eating constantly rather than a lot in one sitting. I'll consume an entire shopping bag worth of food in one day at the office. (And note that doesn't include both breakfasts, supper, dessert and my pre-bedtime meal as those are all out of the office . )

What are some of your records, BigAlex?

I've been known to eat a whole large pizza myself. A coworker once commented to someone else that it was "scary" watching me eat. Parents hide their children and pets when it's my feeding time. I have limited myself to 4 trips to the steam tables at the Chinese buffet. But that does not include soup and dessert trips.

One large Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and extra cheese, and an order of cheese sticks.

It was when I was in grad school....we had just wrapped up an experiment that lasted 30 hours straight, and I hadn't had a chance to eat or sleep......ate that and slept for the next 14 hours!

Um, I think the most I've ever eaten was half a large pep. pizza from Papa Johns That was ages ago though. I do well to get through 3 slices now... granted I do tend to eat smaller meals through the day so that also has to factor in a bit ..hehe..

Now if you want to talk about eating you should see my mother. When a group goes out after church on Sundays to a "Chinese/Japanese All you can eat" place, she piles it one... I mean, she will fill three plates before she sits down to eat! Then she goes back again for seconds and then desert. This may not seem like a large amount of food, but when you consider she's probably 5'1", you have to wonder where it all goes..hehe... Of course she complains that I don't eat enough to validate me eating at an "All you can eat" place since I rarely eat more than a plate worth of food (if that much)

1. How did someone so small spawn a monster of a guy like you?
2. How does she eat so much & you so little?
3. How do you grow so much without constant HUGE meals?

Signed, Jealous.

That's me too... Buffets are wasted on me. Except maybe for the dessert section.

I always find those all you can eat affairs seem to suppress my appetite. I seem to spend half my time trying to avoid ending up with ranch dressing on my fruit salad.

After one plateful of overly mixed food (eg fish, shellfish, roast beef and salad) I lose my appetite. I actually prefer a more limited normal menu of food cooked to order.

What I want to know is how to eat more at each sitting. I fill up way too easily. Any ideas for being able to eat more, as well as digesting it?

Weight gain shakes notoriously go right through me and give me awful gas. Some people have suggested things like taking fiber powder or tabs to aid digestion, flax or olive oil. Any heavy eaters have any tips?

1. I haven't a clue... from small acorns grow a mighty tree I guess
2. I think she's able to pack food away due to her upbringing. If you've ever seen Chinese people eat, it's always like a buffet and they just graze on it... sometimes right into the next meal if it's a holiday..hehe
3. I eat constant small meals.. I guess that's how. It seems to work pretty well

Don't be Jealous.. no reason to.. I might weigh a decent amount, but I'm not as big as most guys who are 270 and 6'... Most don't even think I'm above the 230s or so! I keep getting told "You carry the weight well"... maybe I should eat more at buffets! hehe

Nope, nobody can, so don't even try.

Anywho, I don't eat much, but the few times I've pigged out (and even these times I've come nowhere close to the amount of food my brother or father are able to eat) I threw up. Which made some family and friends worry about me (no, I am not bullimic, or anorexic, thank you. I love food to much and throwing up messes up your teeth). The first time was with merengue, which is a sort of mexican dessert, then again with cake and pumpkin pie (but it was such GOOD pumpkin pie) I ate like at least 2 pieces of pumpkin pie, 1 of pumpkin cheesecake, then some chocolate cake, then some marbled cake, and there were other cakes. AND donuts! Mmmmmmmmmhhhhh cake and pumpkin pie.... and donuts.

And I may not be the one who eats the most at all-you-can-eat buffets, but I am the one with the perfectly arranged plate. I have been known to even color-coordinate them. (Dad: "Weren't you getting the beef with broccoli?" Me: "I was, but I had already enough green on my plate and I needed something more yellow to go with the the peanut butter chicken." Dad: *roll eyes*)

I realized that when I first saw the women on my mother's side eat in Taiwan... they never stopped.. there was always something in their mouths and when they would come in from somewhere else they brought in.. you guessed it.. more food. It's amazing that they stay so thin!

Maybe it was too much too fast? I know that sometimes if I take in food too fast I get to the point where I want to throw up. I actually have a pretty small stomach IMHO and tend to each small meals versus large ones. Maybe that's something you should try... small meals but more often.. if you were interested in building up a tolerance to larger quantities.. then again, that's probably counter productive.. more likely you'd just have to find your critical mass and eat right up to it, rest then eat back up to that point and try to push it..

hmm.. when did this turn into "how to win a competative eating competition forum" hehe

Except for the sodium levels...

...Chinese cuisine is very healthy.Anyone wanting an easy diet might try restricting themselves to Chinese meals.

Plus, it's really, really good!

Oh, and OptimusX, thanks for the tips, and while I don't think I ate THAT fast, I suppose that might've been it... I usually eat little throughout the day... but it's mostly junk food, so I've been trying to eat better, fewer times and have stuff like granola bars and stuff for when I have cravings.

And cut back on the soda... lots...

buffets....hmmmm

I'm surprised at how may weight lifters here don't have big appetites. I couldn't gain weight if I didn't eat a ton. Guess I have a fast metabolism. 4-5 plates at a buffet is pretty standard and I'm not that big (5'10" 185-200). But I have to confess, I just like to eat alot too. Plus with buffets (if the food is decent) I don't have to cook or clean. Plus a few times, I've gone rather overboard and eaten enough to really make people stare. At least 10 quarter lb burgers at a barbeque once....maybe more I lost count. Most folks I go to a buffet with get board with me. I'd love to go and not be the last person eating. I know there are some of you out there. And by the way, I'm a friend of bigalex, and he can really put it away....almost scary.
