Christian Bale IS Batman Found this interesting tidbit in an interview of cast members of Batman Begins. The article may contain spoilers of the film. --- CBR News: Christian how physically taxing was this movie on you? Bale: It was excessive since I was so thin. I had been filming "The Machinist" and I usually am about one hundred and eighty five pounds. I had to drop to one hundred and twenty one for The Machinist and then I had to bulk up to two hundred and twenty for "Batman Begins" in the span of five months. That was very taxing. --- I watched it 3 days ago, and I can say Bale has certainly filled out the costume in ways Keaton, Kilmer and Clooney never could. Oy, what a hunk. Damn! Can't he play Superman too? (Damn pretty body Routh. Yuck.) Seriously, hot bod or not, I'm really looking forward to BB. I hear it's excellent. |

With the exception of Ben Affleck, the recent superhero movies have been great for these actors's physiques. Last edited by omelissokomos; June 9th, 2005 at 09:22 PM. |

Which is too bad, since I find Ben's eternal sneer appealing for some reason. Man should really pack on some beef, make his screen time worth our while. ^_~ Never been into comic book slash (of the manga or western variety), but perhaps I should try writing some. Might be interesting. |

Christian Bale should be allowed to play whatever superhero he wants based on the pics posted by Omelissokomos and his performance in American Psycho. Fuck -- what a hottie! That boy wants muscle in a big fuckin' way! No str8 boy buffs up like that without having a lust for muscle. Right? |

If you think he looked good in American Psycho, you should see him in Reign Of Fire where he totally buffed-up for the part! Plus he's handsome as well! __________________ God is in the rain. |

Hale, Bale Bale gained 90 # to go from his Machinist physique to his B atman body! Whoa! And to think he first came to attention as the young English boy (a hero, naturally) in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun (WWII English POWs in Manchuria/Shanghai) This is actually just the most recent in a string of actors buffing up: Remember DeNiro in Raging Bull? Who else comes to mind? Mdlftr |

In case you're wondering, Christian is 6'2 (according to IMDB); 220 lbs. is a nice size for that height (but not exactly huge!) Conversely, 130 lbs. at 6'2 is just plain scary! oxox richard |

If you saw Bale in Reign of Fire he was pretty bulked up there as well. Last edited by bulkybud; June 11th, 2005 at 06:53 AM. Reason: Forgot attachments |

I just saw the movie. There were some serious problems with but overall it wasn't bad--but it should have been great. But that ain't the point. The point is: Christian Bale is a STUD. Stud isn't even the word for him. He should have skipped the hero part and saved the city by walking around naked. His muscles are big but not shredded which gives him a very blue collar look. Not to mention the fact that, unlike many other movie stars today, HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A TEENAGE GIRL. Seriously, just go for the pecs alone. Woof! |

I just saw Batman Begins last Wednesday. Bale is good, nicely buffed, but what most impressed me was how quick he was doing his push-ups ! Woa....strong !!! Besides, the film was also very good. __________________ Thufir Hawat aka Sam |

20 pounds of muscle per month! Even more so! it wasn't 130lbs, it was 121lbs!! and he did this in 5 months!!....100lbs in FIVE MONTHS!!! I would be walking with a constant hard-on if I were to help this guy with his wardrobe..."Hmmm, sorry mate but this jacket is too small, got a larger size?" ....Hmm seems I split open the shoulder seams on the next size up too, how 'bout another size up?...shoot! as soon as I get comfortable in a set of clothes, I grow out of them!!" ppl used to argue with me when i said before that when i was 225 at 6ft5 i was a bit thin everyone thought oh if your 220 you must be really heavy of course this usally came from someone 5ft 8-10 who apperently had no idea the diffrence in weight given 7-10 inchs can make any yeah when i was 18 i was very ill for a year and ended up weighing 128-132 for a month it wasn't pretty |

grywolf.... off-topic I once had a friend who always gave me that line too. "you can't be 250lbs! No way are you that heavy!" The best time though was when another one of our friends in this particular group who was actually taller/bigger than I was - immediately said to him "Remember Matt, muscle weighs more than fat" he turned red, I smiled brightly. It was never said again! |

Good movie, GREAT body! Very well-proportioned. Beautiful pecs, as others have mentioned, but I *loved* his shoulders and arms. Far and away the best built guy to play Batman. xoxo richard |

Although I'm not arguing that he was in great shape for the film, I think the 6'2" is a bit of a publicist's stretch. Overall a good comic book adaptation, and the Batmobile ruled. I did not care for the voice he took in the Batman costume; it sounded like he was coming down with laryngitis. I recall seeing a pic of him in a Superman costume when they were considering him for the role. |
