Usernames

Hi y'all!

A friend of mine asked me to get her some cool usernames for the hotmail account she will be opening (she currently has no e-mail... bizarre, I know). While I'm usually a lilttle creative this time I am stumped, all I've come up with is:

Raverbear (or raver_bear) cuz she got that as a quizilla result
iwantacookie (or givemeacookie (Imagine! Someone asks you for your e-mail and you say "givemeacookie", hilarity ensues, and you might even get a cookie!(cookies rock!)))
iwillkillyou (or iwillkillyouall, but it has so many l's)
ana_laura (cuz that's her name (oh, so original! (pretty sure it's taken, too)))

Any suggestions? Or any ideas for coming up with usernames?

Thanks in advance!

~Ashley

uhh wow... usernames/handles/nics are such a personal thing.

All of those say the wrong thing to me in terms of first impression but I'm not quite sure what she's going for.

Raver_bear - is just chok full of negative connotations for me... about raves and drug abuse.

iwantacookie - is she fat and proud? I'm sure she isn't.... first impressions can matter tho.

iwillkillyou - to me this says "moron with a serious self-hate problem over-compensating by trying to behave in an intimmidating manner on the internet".... these are the kind of people I actually enjoy chewing up and spitting out on a regular basis.... not a good way to form a first impression. anything directly related to general murder or sex is usually a common name for a troll or a spam-bot as well.

ana_laura - lacks creativity

-------

how about something that reflects her positive interests / better traits and/or desires/goals?

Otter is a nickname I've had for YEARS AND YEARS... so there's no better choice for me than that because most of my friends and co-workers use it over my real name... my other SN "ethernet_jock" is a reference to both a computer nerd and a gym jock and has dual-meaning... clever... reflects interests... gathers attention... unique.

does that help?

My choices of user names

My username "does exactly what it says on the time"

Celtic is the term given to those from Scotland, Wales and the west of England
Muscle is what I am hoping to become once I hook up with a natural bodybuilder here in Wales

That's what I said to her. That's why I'm having problems with it. -_-*Which is why I ask for help.

Dude! iwantacookie is like the best e-mail EVER! =^^= She already said no to this one (says it's too long) and I'm so using it! And no, she isn't fat.

Anywho, thanks so much for the tips and suggestions. I've never thought of usernames as being that big of a deal, really, but I suppose you have a point about first impressions. Although I also think you can't judge a book by its cover. But then again some people never let go of a first impression...

whatever, thanks again!

I've always gone for the medieval Anglo-Saxon/Norman tradition of putting a name with a characteristic, but often the adjective used was actually the opposite of what the person was. William I of England was known as 'the Conqueror' to his friends and 'the Bastard' to his enemies. His son William II was known as 'Rufus' from the latin for red - he had red hair and beard.

Confusingly Little John, from the Robin Hood myth, was actually very very big. Thorkil the White had very dark hair, and a bushy black beard.

So perhaps use one of your friends characteristics to describe her, or as a joking opposite of what she is or looks like.

Good luck!

Jamie

PS I'll leave it up to you guys to work out whether I'm truly wise, have too big an opinion of myself, am trying to be ironically self-depricating in a way only other medievalists would understand, or that I know that I'm foolish and therefore have decided to call myself something I'm not. Gosh it does get confusing doesn't it!
