Help for a friend

I've been a member of the forum for a couple of years but I've never posted anything so hello everyone. I have a friend that recently started working out (about 2 weeks now) and today he just tried his first protein shake and creatine shake. The thing is that while working out he just went pale. He says his breathing was ok but that he felt a little bit dizzy. Is that because he was dehydrated or is it something else? Is there a way to prevent this? I've never felt this so I didn't know what to say. Thanks!!!!

welcome, officially, to the forum!

sounds like your friend had low blood sugar and/or was just fatigued. There could be several reasons. When and what did he eat before his workout? Has he been getting around eight hours of sleep per night? How long before his workout did he drink that protein/creatine shake?

Dehydration...

,,,could very well be the problem. All powder supplements are mixed with liquids,of course;but I've often had the sensation that they continue to absorb fluids as they work their way through your system.Hope this helps.

I think we may have found the problem. He slept for 7 hours but he only ate cereal on the morning (around 8 am) and he didn't like his lunch so he threw it away. After that he went to the gym and ran in the treadmill more than a mile.

uhhh yeah, that would be the problem.

A couple years ago when I first started working out at a real gym, I had my 3 free personal trainer sessions. I showed up for my first personal trainer session and the guy worked my freakin' ass off.... I'd had no idea how hard a person needed to work before this first session but I learned quickly how to workout correctly and whatnot.

ANYway, about 1/2 hour into the session... I began to shake, I suddenly turned pale and started sweating beyond profusely. He laughed a little (not mockingly, just a nice guy) and told me I'd better head for the bathroom before it's too late.

I puked...

When I came out... we had a long talk about "you're supposed to actually eat before you exercise, stupid". (I had skipped lunch that day)

Now-a-days what I do - since I get up at 4am and workout in my basement instead of at a gym - is I fill up a 8oz glass 1/2 with orange juice and 1/2 with water and begin to drink it right away before working out. I continue to drink it throughout my 60 or 90 minute session... and it gives me just enough sugar to workout well and be strong before I have a high-protein breakfast afterwards. It also keeps the body from eating your muscle for energy!

Food/fuel.... important.
