Quinoa

Hey I just tried Quinoa today. My aunt had bought some organic Quinoa for me and my parents and we finally tried it. Well it advertised that it gave a bit of an energy boost but I dunno I actually felt like it did. I went to workout after dinner and felt a bit more energy than usual. It may have just been it being a really nice sunny day, or some kind of placebo affect but I felt like I had a bit more energy in the gym than usual. Has anyone else tried it? I'd be interested in seeing if this was just me or if there is anything actually too it.

It's just a grain. I use it instead of brown rice sometimes. It has a bit more protein (8 g vs 5 g; also a better amino acid profile) and a bit more fibre (5 g vs 4 g) than brown rice, but other than that I don't see what's special about it.

I've had quinoa before. The good thing about it is that it can be prepared in the same manner as rice, i.e. 2 cups of boiling water per 1 cup of quinoa, cover, set to simmer, and leave it be for 20 minutes.

it's the only known source of vegetarian complete protein i.e. you can live off of quinoa alone (protein source-wise) whereas all of the others, like soy require a more diverse diet.

I remember experimenting with quinoa a few years ago - quinoa and cottage cheese pancakes with an apple juice concentrate-based topping. Rather nice, given I'm a dreadful cook.

Quinoa is a whole grain, and I prepare it, just like rice. I'm able to use it in barley when I cook. When you cook quinoa, it takes less time to cook than rice.

I have searched a bit about Quinoa. It is a grain like crop mostly like a pseudocereal rather than an original cereal. But at the end it is healthy.

Heard a lot about quinoa so I bought a bag a few weeks ago. It may be very nutricious but it tastes TERRIBLE: sour, bitter, and salty. A little better when made with chicken stock instead of water or as part of a pilaf with white rice. But still... yuck...
