The chickens are coming home to roost..... The second-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, Majority Leader Tom DeLay, was indicted on Wednesday on a felony campaign-finance charge and temporarily stepped down from his post. The powerful Republican, nicknamed "The Hammer" for his reputation as a tough party enforcer, could face up to two years in prison if convicted on the charge handed up by the Travis County grand jury in the Texas state capital, Austin. See the rest of the story here: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor..._nm/delay_dc_7 IN another Delay-connected story (six degrees of corruption?) Lobbyist Jack Abramson and a business partner were charged with fraud in a casion purchase deal. The Washington Post reported today on the front page that police had charged 3 mafia figures with murder in the death of the former partner of Abramson and his partner. Delay's connection to all this: he went on a golfing holiday in Scotland paid for by Abramson and his cronies..... |

Not that I wouldn't like to see Tom DeLay convicted (or tarred and feathered, to continue your metaphor)--the coverage though is emphasizing the questionable political motivation of the prosecutor and the personal antagonism between him and DeLay. Also, they're saying he's mentioned only once in an extensive conspiracy indictment in which others are the primary players. However, it's still great news because it further erodes the Republican Party's claim to moral/ethical superiority and makes it more likely that we might have a Democrat in the White House in 2008--hopefully in time for women, gay people, blacks and latinos, those who value their privacy, believe in separation of church and state, etc. If you haven't heard Tom DeLay's news conference, try to. It's a priceless "victim" statement by one of the most virulently combative, nastiest politicians ever. |

*shrug* I'm Libertarian. Those Democrats and Repubicans and their bickering are funny to me. It seems like one will just oppose the other on principle. |

the Libertarian Party is stupid: Libertarians think they are voting for freedom, but in fact they usually go Republican (since the Libertarian party can't get enough votes) and end up having even more rights taken away from themselves. Anyone that is for small government right now needs to be a Democrat; with all the wars, and ineffectiveness, Republicans spend much more than Dems, and they get big Government involved in things like who you should marry! __________________ God is in the rain. |
