What's Florida done now? In other words, Hurricane Wilma is expected to hit Naples, Florida by 4.00pm EDT on Saturday Expect every news channel to use this file by Friday "WILMA!" zipped __________________ The stronger they are, the more muscled they are |

What did the US do to deserve this? Well, global warming certainly churns the atmosphere (think boiling water (the gaseous atmosphere) getting even hotter), and the US has no policy to control greenhouse gasses. I recall from my youth Florida's beautiful beaches, now gone due to rising sea levels. Tropical Depression 24 (aka Hurricane Wilma) is only the latest problem. __________________ http://www.scott-safier.us "Stand firm for what you believe in until or unless logic or experience prove you wrong. What's Florida done now? It's all my fault. We finally got our roof repaired, and the cracked glass replaced, and the fallen trees all removed, and the lawn decent, and the flowers next to the house are back, and we have a huge hole in one gable where a damaged gable vent was removed to be duplicated and it won't be ready until middle of next week. I expect to be sweeping water away from my computer this weekend. |

Geez,LG,.... ...can't you learn to control yourself?One thing is clear:if god is out to destroy the wicked;his aim stinks. |
| |||
Heh, if God was out to destroy the wicked, only babies, nuns and some guy on a deserted island would still be alive |

Knowing what God thinks.... ...Have you guys turned Republican?!!?? Where are all the "experts" who knows what God thinks when it comes to the actions of other countries: e.g., "Pakistan must have displeased God by hiding Osama Bin Laden, which is why they got an earthquake." "Sri Lanka must have displeased God by _________(hosting too many tourists on their formerly pristine beaches), which is why they got an earthquake." "France must have displeased God by passing laws banning the free exercise of religion (headscarf bans, among others) which is why they had a second year of drought this summer." How ridiculous do we want to get? |

Well, we seem to have made it through the storm. Power was on all the time. A tornado hit a couple of miles from here and tossed a few cars into the trees and tore the roof of a building but we didn't lose any trees and the big oak branch (as big as most trees) overhanging the house is still overhanging the house. The river stayed in it's channel, the ocean stayed on the far side of the barrier island. Melbourne was on the northern fringes of the hurricane winds, perhaps 60 or 70 mph. However, I've got relatives in Naples on the West of Florida and Pompano Beach on the East who both went through the eye of the storm which was surrounded by 100-120 mph winds. We haven't heard from them yet but I suspect power is out and cell phones are jammed or the towers damaged. |

So,the branch is still on the roof. Geez,LG;have you been able to work it into the decor? |

No, no, no... The hickory tree that was leaning on the house was removed a few weeks after the storms last year. The roof remained unrepaired for over a year until two weeks before Wilma, the storm this past weekend. The big branch overhanging the house is a huge branch of a humongous old oak that covers more than half this big house and most of the house next door. The huge limb is still firmly attached to the tree and not resting on the house. We're afraid that if we were to remove the tree, the east coast of Florida would raise five feet as the weight was removed. The tree is healthy and sound and checked often (by us, the neighbors, and the city) but someday (probably sooner rather than later) the branches are going to have to be trimmed. Unfortunately that would destroy the look of the area. That tree has been a landmark for generations, and was old before the city was founded. |

Awwww,... &here I had all these romantic visions of you in your open-air cottage....staring up at the stars....making friends with the critters that wander in&out...Kinda like Snow White,only butcher.A long-standing tree is a beautiful thing.A landmark;as much or more than a hill or a stream.Here's hoping you&the tree live&prosper;intact,for a long time.g. |
