Gary's Growth

ive been lurking for some time. now ive finally summed up the courage to post a progress thread of my own. i apprecaite all the positive feedback that goes on this board. the other BB boards i frequent, usually they offer nothing than flames. i dont need that.

ive been serious about gaining some size for about 7-8 years now. back and shoulder problems have seriously hurt my gains the last two years. but now i feel stronger than ever before. i just started a new HST program. full body workout 3 times a week. one or two sets of 14 exercises. this being the third week - i feel im doing pretty good. for the first time ever i have finally broke 200 on the squat rack. bench press is still lagging, im up to 2 sets of 10@ 165. no where near where i should but when i push myself is when i pay for it with shoulder pain for days. i will post progress pix often.

current stats:
5'11", 215, 45 ch, 35 w, 16 bi, 23 q

It's a joy to see you post finally, Gary. Terrific pics as always. You should be proud of your progress, you're a great role model for us all.

Be careful to keep your shoulders pulled back and down on your benches and pulldowns. That should keep them out of harm's way. On the squats, just keep your butt out upper back flat and really let your arms support the weight as well. Your poundages and your quads will explode in no time.

Good luck my friend. Your dreams are within reach.

Great pics, Gary--and , more important, great diligence and great progress!

Somebody once told me that when you're feeling stuck or impatient, that's the time to look back and see where you started and how far you've come. And when ypu're feeling complacent, that's the time to look ahead to where you want to get. (Don't know if this makes sense to you or anyone else, but it works for me.)

Gary,
Great post!

You're showing good results, and you deserve a big pat on your broad back for posting!

Re: shoulder pain. Make sure you warm up with rotator cuff exercises before benching. Also, consider substituting db presses instead of barbell presses. I tried that, at the suggestion of some of the members of this forum, and it makes a big difference in avoiding/eliminating shoulder pain!

Keep pumping!

Good Stuff!

Great arms!In addition to what Hulk said, keep your chin DOWN on benches. It will usually correct stress angle in the shoulder socket.I can't reccommend Twinlab LIQUID Joint Fuel enough.(You may have to special order it)It tastes lousy, but costs less than tablets&works better!Be proud! You deserve it!

Consider high reps with lower weights for benches.Try to work up to 135 for 20reps.At first,it'll make you weaker for subsequent sets;but you WILL get stronger over time. The whole"high reps=definition;low reps=mass"thing is overplayed. The important thing is MORE!

Thumbs up Jeans?

Congratulations on your continued gains, Gary! Knowing how little you like the cold weather and with your quads/jeans problem, I suggest you invest in sweat pants. They will accommodate your continued growth and keep you warm at the same time! Keep pushing yourself and continue to update us on your progress.
