Hey guy, Welcome to NYC -- just moved here about 8 months ago myself. As for gyms, there are a few I'd recommend, depending on the kind of thing you like. I train at a place called Johnny Lats (aka 24/7 Fitness) on 17th St E, which is cheap, kinda grungy and full of serious bodybuilders and powerlifters, most of whom are straight... For "gayer" gyms, you can check out Steel on 23rd between 7 & 8th, and The 19th Street Gym, on 19th Street (surprisingly enough). Both are good gyms, with great equipment and serious lifters. Further uptown, there's a Golds on 54th near 8th Ave, which is also a pretty serious gym. And then there are NYSC clubs and Bally's all over the place. If you want to check out Johnny Lats, drop me a note -- they let members bring in non-members for a free workout on Fridays. Have a good one. -- J. __________________ 6'3", 225#, growth-oriented lifter. Inquisitive guy looking for compatriots for workouts, growth tips and conversation. http://www.bigmuscle.com/~massingUP |

more nyc gyms Hey man, I just read your post and MassingUp's reply and wanted to add a couple things. First, 19th Street Gym is between 5th and 6th Aves not 7th and 8th. Not that big a difference--unless you spend time scratching your head and not finding the place. Its a great gym with good energy---music spinning good machines and lots of free weights and muscle, especially between 5 and 8 pm. Also, there is a second 24/7 on 14th Street that is about the cheapest place you can join in Manhattan, at least from what I've experienced. There's also a David Barton Gym on 6th Ave around 15th or 16th Street. As Massing was saying, if there's anything I can do to help out, please let me know. |

I'm working out at 24 hour fitness on 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Is anyone else working out there? If so, it'd be great to have someone to push me to get bigger and someone I can push too. |
