Question Superman?

There really seems to be a lack of Brandon Routh pics showing any muscle at all. What's up with that? Is he just not very super?

i may be wrong but i beleive the muscles we see on superman's (routh's) costume are just padding, routh himself is actually pretty slender. he was picked for the part because of his resemblence to christopher reeve.

It certainly does seem that Routh's physique is not particularly imposing. Part of the problem is that he has a long torso, which is emphasized by the somewhat revisionist costume with the very low trunkline and the high neck. It makes him look even slimmer than he otherwise might.

Just came back from watching the movie, and while he wasn't very super, Brandon Routh was IMO very sexy.

I remember reading that men and women differ a lot over what they consider an ideal body, and Routh's smooth and lean physique seems catered for the ladies.

Not to mention they had to modify the suit because his family jewels were a little prominent.

Just came back from watching the movie as well, it was pretty good, you get to see a couple good shots of routh/superman (he did look pretty nice in that suit), I thought he was a pretty good superman, not the greatest not the worst. One of Lex Luthor's thugs was pretty beefy though...

And just curious did they show anything after the credits of the movie? I wanted to stay for it, but my friends dragged me out of it... '

Nope - you didn't miss anything after the credits. I actually saw the movie at a "sneak preview" last night. I enjoyed it for the most part and agree that Brandon didn't look bad in the costume - though I still think he is too thin for the role. And why don't they put the "S" on the cape as it is in the comics? Sorry, I get a little nit-picky when it comes to my men of steel!

I don't think there is a "S" on his cape for the comics series...

And also

Not only does Superman wear the yellow S on his cape int he comics, so does Supergirl, Krypto (the superdog), Streaky (the supercat), and even Beepo (the super monkey). It's been a consistent comic book icon since the fifties and in all the previous movies and television shows with the exception of Smallville where capes are still verbotin! And I'm not sure about the 1948 movie serial starring Kirk Alyn as the man of steel.

They usually don't use the S on the cape in animated versions as it is too difficult to make it look natural and flowing with the cape (or so I've heard).

Okay - it's official now (as if it wasn't before) I'm a fanboy geek!

Routh has very much a swimmer's physique. The history of Superman special on A&E has a clip of him swimming (for the flight cgi) and he really fits in there. I did read in an article that after Routh was cast, the put him on a workout routine to build some muscle, but when he returned for sotting, he'd muscularly outgrown the suit and had to be slimmed down.

I also noticed that thug of Luther's. His arms were jacked.

Actually Routh gained 20 pounds, but it does look in some scenes like they made him lose 15 of them.

Also, what the hell was up with all the shots that made his gut look huge? I saw it on an IMAX (do NOT see it on IMAX) and even correcting for the cylindrical aberration, it was pretty bad. They did the same thing with Angel too... don't hang someone from a flying harness and shoot their abs in a tight angle, unless you remind them to keep tensed the whole time!

In the MTV showing of the Making Of, he looks pretty good, but not nearly as huge as he should. In fact, the Joey Lawrence photos (see other thread in this forum) ... at his larger sizes, he'd be a better physical model for Superman.

I thought Routh's acting was actually pretty good. It was the great stone face of Kate Bosworth (did I get that right?) that bothered me - she must've heavily botoxed her entire face, because only her eyes and voice expressed any real emotion.

Oh yeah... one other thing...

I completely expect that by now there are at least 20 and maybe 200 slashfic of varying quality depicting the Routh/Marsden pairing in all combinations, in and out of character.

The comic book geek in me would rather see Routh and Bale gettin' it on in the fics and as well as pics.

My mistake, Superman does have a "S" on his cape, however, it is not the Yellow one right now. It is merely an outline of the "S" on the middle portion of his cape...

what's funny is - toward the end of the movie when superman loses his powers on a crytal continent lex's goons are beating him up and one goon is pretty buff - bigger than superman himself.

That would be ex-rugby player (who's openly gay, BTW) Ian Roberts. You can see more pics of this Aussie hunk on Google.

I also liked David Fabrizio who had the clown face tattooed on the back of his head.

DA-yum... Josh Boultinghouse has grown bigger and cuter since I saw him last. He definitely fills out Superman's uniform better than Brandon can ever dream.
