300 the Movie Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, this movie recounts the Battle of Thermopylae that pitted King Leonidas and his 300 Spartan warriors against the massive army of King Xerxes bent on conquering Greece. From the previews alone, I can't wait to see those 300 leather-brief clad hunks fighting on the big screen in 2007. |
| |||
WOW!! are they actually that buff?? or are they wearing suits?? nevertheless they look very hott! i wonder what the temperature would be like in the cinema XD |
| |||
From what I hear it's a combination of their own healthy bodies with make up and, I presume, some camera tricks and digital effects, but no muscle suits of cg morphs. Sexy men aside (not too far aside) I can't wait to see this next foray into cinematic adaptations of Frank Miller's work. Side notes: 1 - I would love to see Mr. Miller do an original movie on his own. 2 - Mr. Miller doesn't have a gay vibe (he's definitely hetero albeit gay positive) but he sure makes stuff that turns us on. |
| |||
wow can't wait! |
| |||
The teaser trailer is out, and it looks scrumptious. And see how these guys trained for their roles. No wonder they got really ripped. |
| |||
Damn, now I want 2007 to come get here for two movies! Definately can't wait on that. |
| |||
the stylized action is cool enough, but lots of hot half-naked guys as a bonus...count me in. did you see the thick, huge guy on the rings towards the end of the training video? oh man... |
| |||
The movie opens next Friday, and my partner is loving the commercial. I mean, I am too , but every time it comes on, my partner stares and says, "Good Lord, he's got an amazing body!" Gerard Butler (of the amazing body) is profiled in Men's Health this month. His training regimen sounds brutal! Then he didn't work out at all for 8 months after shooting wrapped. Very extreme. |
| |||
Heh, I did a commercial with that short big guy on the rings at the end. He really is big. He's done QAF a few times too. For the record, 18" arms. So, has anyone seen it? I ask cuz I'm gonna go to the movies tomorrow or sunday. Is it good (and not just for the hot guys, I really mean it)? __________________ In the MGS FC's I am Psycho Mantis! Oh. My. God. What. A. Movie. I've never seen so many six-packs on the big-screen before. (Well, I never watched Animal House.) |
| |||
Six packs aside, how was it--and no, I'm not looking for commentary on the pecs and the butts and the contrstrained and bulging loincloths. *Phew!* I can't wait. |
| |||
I didn't think it came out until Friday? wtf? but yeah, it's one of those double-incentive movies: I want to see it anyway (for the stupidly, ridiculously over-the-top machismo action) and the SUPER hawt guys wearing relatively little. booyah! |
| |||
Looking through the pictures, the tight leather shorts bring me to an uncontrollable urge to sing Toobular Boobular Joy (here: http://www.wayfellows.com/mst3k/toobular.shtml ) |
| |||
I suppose it is too much to hope that the movie is honest about the Spartans, namely that their army was made-up of pairs of lovers? |
| |||
Heard that its battle scene music suxs (heavy rock music) and NOT an epic movie like LOTR. Though there's lots of eye candy...and gore. |

After our play went on last night, some of us decided to go see the midnight premiere. I was originally just going to along for dinner, since I've spent this week submerged in a wash of Theraflu, but theatre kids are heedless of agony when it comes to entertainment. Thoughts follow. Quote:

What struck me most about this movie was its intensity. They didn't do anything in half-measures. Everything and everyone was over-the-top. It was true to the original comic. Yeah, there were lots of six-packs, but I almost didn't notice them after the story kicked into gear. Instead, I kept thinking how the charge of the Light Brigade definitely deserved a modern movie treatment. As far as hopeless military maneuvers go, that one remains my favorite. In brief: loved the movie, admired the phalanx of muscle, was blown away by the filmmaker's stylistic flair. ...I hope no one will think less of me if I say that my favorite part of the whole movie was the Spider-Man III trailer at the beginning. I texted a close friend who has read some of my erotic fiction, expressing my excitement over Venom. His response: "Symbiote fetish." Sometimes I wish I had Shift's gift for witty repartee. -X- |

It's getting terrible reviews, but so did "Sin City." I foolishly waited till that was on DVD to see it, and thought it was amazing. So I'll go see this one for the visuals alone, which look amazing. |

Just got back from the theatre. A damn good movie with some damn hot men. Some great storytelling, and it was definately difficult to not drool over specimens in their peak condition. |
| |||
I saw "300" yeasterday afternoon. WHEW! It was chock full of beefy physiques. I'm SO glad the Spartans wore so little clothing. Is it just me, or did Xerxes look a bit like Jambi from Pee-Wee's Playhouse? mecca-lecca-hi, mecca-hi-nee-ho __________________ Donnie My Blog: Donnie's Diversions My MSN Space with pics & workout blog Jacksonville, Onslow County, NC, USA I'm reminded of the immortal last words of Socrates who said, "I Drank What?!" |

Here's a couple of links to some 300 art (not mine). Not really much muscle on display, but if you liked the movie, you may like them anyway. Some original concept art for the movie: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92229 A nice portrait-type scene of a Spartan: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=91951 |

Jeez, I didn't know that Xerxes was that guy from LOST. |
| |||
My theater had just installed digital projection before this movie came out and I was so glad. It brought out every detail of the men. Excelent movie in my opinion. |

Oh my lord what a movie! And I'm not even religious. Boy I love drive-ins! Caught it Tues..... Once you accept the fact that the movie is about the way it LOOKS; it's pretty terriffic! Print reviews were bad; but most TV reviewers liked it. Vince McMahon might have been in charge of the dialogue. But a big part of the film is the glorification of beautiful male bodies in motion & slow-motion. I don't think there's EVER been a movie with so many fit men in it! (p. s., anybody want to try to morph some of the stills?) |
| |||
On the topic of 'Critics' I'm not a big fan of the movie, to spite all its beefy hotness; as an artist by trade I prefer the original graphic novel though I think they did a great job trying to capture it in the film. However, you guys may be interested to know that the HARSHEST critics of the film aren't even in the US. Apparently the leader of the 'free' people of Iran and many Iranian news sources have denounced this film and proclaimed it an attack on Persian culture...i'll post links... http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...movie_300.html http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=114&sid=1086909 http://community.verizon.net/thread....dID=1700001371 Any other sources you may want to look up you'll have to do on your own, there's a lot out there. It begs the question on wether or not our illustious government with all of its care for our freedom's of expression will soon demand a softer, more Iranian-friendly version of the film to be made. You know...where the men will be frumpier and have to wear more clothing. (J/K) =P Is it anger against an American portrayal of ancient Persia? Or anger at American freedom to portrayal ancient Persia... I also apologize if I've doomed this thread to insane political fighti...er...debate. Yeah. Perseus |

More On 300 'critics' Sorry, me ranting again... Its funny how the hooplah is portraying this film in err of actual history, when the COMIC BOOK it is based on isn't even an acurate account of the historical events that ocured. The real reason that the Persians look 'monstrous' and the Greeks looked 'noble', IS BECAUSE IT JUST LOOKED FRICKEN COOL! This wasn't a film/ comic where there was supposed to be any confusion for whom you'd be rooting for. The storytellers brilliantly made us believe what they did in order to make the actions of the 300 Greek soldiers that delayed an entire Persian army in a remote mountain pass to give their leaders a chance to regroup seem just shy of a miracle. It wasn't supposed to have a historical retoric, it was a COMIC, and a COMIC BASED MOVIE, where the director wanted to transpose images straighted out of the graphic novel he loved up onto the screen. And I think he did a marvelous job. God bless our freedom of expression. I hope they never make a single apology for this film. ..ok...now wheres the spell checker for this thing...hmmm... Perseus |

I knew that someone in the middle east would see the movie and get mad about it. And guess who "just happened" to be there. That's right, mass media to the rescue! __________________ In the MGS FC's I am Psycho Mantis! "Put your controller on the floor...Put it down as flat as you can...That's good. Just a heads up that the DVD will be available at the end of the month. For those lucky enough to be at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, be on the lookout for the panel with Frank Miller and Zack Synder on July 27. There'll most probably be Spartan beefcakes on display if E!'s Daily 10 is to believed. |

It's a very small world, sometimes.... Finally got around to posting - haven't had much online time this summer..... If you've ever read about how Gerard Butler had *2* personal trainers for 300 - one to get him into shape, and then another to make him look like a warrior - development of specific muscle groups, etc..... The second trainer, Venezualan bodybuilder Franco Licastro, is a friend of mine I've known him for about oh....about 15 years now....Nice guy, but a memory like a seive - he forgot to mention this job to me until after it was all over, and I heard him in an interview talking about it - but then, that's Franco..... Well, th-th-th-that's all f-f-f-folks! Doctor9 __________________ "Small though it is, the human brain can be quite effective, when used *properly*" The Doctor |

Finally, I got to see it. The men were FANTASTIC, and Gerard Butler wasn't even the hottest one! There were more than a few background guys who could have been the star just by standing around sweating. Also, you get to see Gerard's butt! WOW! However, I can't get past the fact that there is a nasty anti-gay sting in the movie. Look at Xerxes (who was kinda hot himself) and you know that he's meant to be a "queen" while Leonidas is a "real man." And everybody should know that the comment about the Athenians being boy-lovers (which is sadly true) was also true for the Spartans, but that part was left out for better or worse. Had I been the director the movie would have been about 300 men going into battle by day and fucking each other and their willing captives by night. But I'd also have tacked on a happy ending where Leonidas and the 300 beat the Persians and celebrate by fucking their eager butts 'til they couldn't stop. *phew!* Seriously, I'd have let the hunchback kill Leonidas for revenge. Leo was cool but when he turned down the hunchback he lost my support. |

Agreed on the comment about Notre Dame boy getting to at least hurt Leo for dropping him like a hot potato. __________________ In the MGS FC's I am Psycho Mantis! Need costume ideas for Halloween? How about something Spartan? Personally, I think a well-defined six-pack (or not) is more than enough. |

I guess I never posted my reaction to this after I saw it. I HATED it. It looked like they used brown gravy to develop the film, and the script was atrocious. Not to mention, it was historically all wrong, and flagrantly homophobic. And who cares about the bodies, when they were so obviously computer-enhanced? It really makes me sad the way gay men will lap-up anything with male bodies on display, no matter how false and bigotted it is. |
| |||
Very true. While the guys were hot I didn't really care for the movie either although my reasons are a little different. Sin City, another Frank Miller adaptation, was just as violent and mysogynistic--although not noticably homophobic--but it was much more enjoyable. 300 just needs to be about guys in tights walking around looking hot. And even that gets boring after a while, especially when it's all in s l o w m o t i o n . . . |

But anyways, you can go ahead and dislike the movie all you like... based on your complaints, I'd say the evening news might be more your style. |
