Doctor9 finally gone digital - First self-pic post

Well, now that we have a digital camera, I'm going to publicly humilliate myself

I'm 35, 6'1" and have reached, after years of 165 lb status, 192ish lbs. Trying to put on more - I'd be happy with 220. (Hey, I'd be ecstatic about 250 - but with my physionomy, it's not bloody likely) Sorry about the pics...they are litterally within the first 10 taken with the camera.

Comments/suggestions?

(Oh, and the weird marks on my hand aren't bruises..they're paint )

Congrats on the digital camera and pics, Doctor9!

Those are some good photos. I especially like the 2 leg shots. Keep up the good job. I look forward to seeing more progress pics as you progress.

A tale not dissimilar from my own. I too was stuck in 150-160 land until I was 35. Congrats on 192...only 8 away from the big 200!I agree with Donnie about your legs. Very nice and full, especially the hams. What's your routine like? Hope you're concentrating on heavy compound moves with emphasis on squats and deadlifts. Thanks again for having the courage to post your photos. Keep us apprised of your progress!p

Have you thought about morphing these pics to give yourself an idea of how you'd look more massive? Could give you the impetus you need to get to 250lbs.

Well, if I was to morph *myself* I'd take better pictures , now that I've gotten a bit used to this camera. I'm an old fuddy-duddly - my previous camera, which got broken a month or so ago as a wonderful old tank - Canon AT-1 (1977!) the very model I learned on in the photography club in high school.

And hulkmuscle - yes I squat - however, I've never been great at deadlifts - should start trying to do them again...I find my lanky body type isn't ideally suited to them mechanically, but I could probably take strain off my back by doing leg curls first to pre-exhaust the hamstrings...then I wouldn't need as much weight.

I'm one of those oddballs who *likes* training legs. I've only been back in the gym since January, didn't go regularly for 5 years...(I've got a 5 year old and 3 year old - guess what cut down the gym time )had to start back to re-balance leg strength - I sort of squished my left lower leg between a forklift and a fire door at work - nothing broken, but lots of soft tissue damage, almost flat on my back for nearly 2 months due to circulatory problems resulting from the crushing.

I was recently pleased to be able to do 2 reps with what was my former personal best on the inclined leg press - 630 lbs (woo hoo) So now I'm hoping I can start *improving*

Growth comes slowly for me, alternately, losses come slowly too - so at least there is some benefit to that ....

Here's looking forward to more growth....

Contrary to your thoughts, lanky bodies are better suited for pulling weight (deadlifts) than pushing (squats), because of elongated levers and a diffused leverage base. I'd actually prescribe traditional, bent-leg from-the-floor deadlifts, not the stiff-leg hamstring variety. They're fantastic for building mass all over the entire back structure, both upper and lower. Try them for a few weeks, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at your strength and size increase.

Bully for you for liking to do legs. You should provide testimony to all the chicken-leg guys at my gym who only work upper body.

Update?

Based on your recent post with even more muscle added to your frame, I'd say an update was in order!

Well, I was able to retrieve my old pictures....for reference before I paste new ones...

Here they are:

Hope those work! These are from 2006, if memory serves - the ones that were at the top of the thread.

I'll try to have new ones up soon - I might cheat and post them after hitting them gym, just to be more impressive

I can't wait either If I could get this recurring hiccups problem that I've had since October to be taken care of (another specialist to see soon) I'd be able to eat more, and maybe finally get to 250, since I've gotten closer. Once I hit 250...well, maybe 275 would be nice

Hey
I saw your 2006 and your 2012 pix.

At 6'1" you now weigh ???, up from 192 6 years ago.

Definitely impressive progress in the sets of pictures. I particularly like your pec, thigh and bi/tri development.

Congratulations on all your hard work and your accomplishments!

I'm somewhat in the same boat- very tall and lean. Currently 208# which seems to be inching up, slowly.

I'm reluctant to do much leg work directly, other than bodyweight squats and lunges, due to lower back surgery for a ruptured disc 10 years ago!

My motto is: "work it ONLY if it DOESN'T hurt beforehand!"

True - I didn't put weight.....227 approx. Varies a little, like any normal body...have been as high as 233....but not consistently yet
