first tv muscle growth sighting - Sinbad, Jr

Was talking with some buddies at work this morning and the subject of favorite cartoons as a kid came up. I mentioned that one of my favorites was Sinbad the Sailor. Another guy remembered it and said hey that's the one where the guy pulled on his belt and he became hugely muscular.
YES - that's what I remembered! This was my first experience (before the Hulk) with seeing muscle growth on tv and the guy growing was a teenager. I was about 11 or 12 years old and didn't understand why I liked it so much but I wished that I was Sinbad. I found this link and realized it was called Sinbad, Jr the Sailor and it was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. A few good stills but I couldnt get the clip to work.

Wow!

I can only imagine what that show would look like with todays art styles. I never got to see the show, and now I know how sorry I was for that. Thanks for posting it.

Wow.....

James35,
That is crazy! I remember that cartoon too! Everyone I've ever mentioned it to never remember it. Thanks for validating my memories.

I remember watching this as a little boy and getting a "tingling" feeling while I lay on the living room floor in front of the big Zenith console television. This was definately my first taste of muscle growth and transforamtion.

Thanks again, James35.

beltboi has posted stories (here?) with themes from this cartoon. The story I posted (Atomic muscle) is inspired by beltboi's story and this cartoon.

Jason Jarman (aka beltboi) posts at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuscleGrowthStories -- search for Jarman on the group. There are two sequences of stories -- Shane and his Muscle Belt and Hustler Sinbad.
