Cool Top Dog's Workout Log

Hey all --

Newbie here. What a great site this is. Truly, the best one I've seen on the net! Been reading a lot and getting a lot of information. Just started back up at the gym about 2-3 weeks ago, again... 39 years old, and I want to break my habit of starting up and then stopping for however long. I want to this time to be different. I used to think that weight training wouldn't provide results, but then I thought to myself: "Self, biologically and physiologically speaking, if you work out, and you lift weights correctly and do all the other stuff that goes with it, then your body has no choice but to change." Hopefully, it will change for the better. Also, almost 40 yo, so I've gotta start doing something to get healthier.

Current stats:
39 yo
5' 8"
202#
36" waist
43" chest (on a great day)
15" arms
15" calves
17" neck
Carrying around a bit of extra weight around the mid-section.

Current Routine that I just started:

3 workouts per week -- 4 cardio days per week

1st workout:
Bench Press -- 2 sets (25x10 and 35x10)
**Shoulder Press -- 2 sets (20x10 and 25x10)
Seated Row -- 2 sets (65x10 and 80x10)
Triceps Pushdowns -- 2 sets (30x8 and 30x8)
Bicep Curls -- 2 sets (15x10 and 20x8)
20 minutes of cardio

** Shoulder press on the Hammer Strength Iso-Lateral Shoulder Press Machine.

I'm only starting out with 2 sets because:
1) I'm working out alone w/o someone to spot me;
2) It fits my comfort level right now; and
3) I'll switch it up next week

Will continue post later with my 2nd and third day workouts.

Anyone who can provide me with any preliminary information or suggestions would be awesome!

I'D POST MY PICS, BUT DON'T QUITE KNOW HOW....

Hello... Dave.

Hi Dave and welcome!

It's always great to hear from guys getting into, or in your case, back into a fitness routine. I've been guilty of flash-in-the-pan workouts myself in the past, but this is something I've been able to avoid thanks much to the wonderful guys here in the forum.

Once you've posted the rest of your workout, I'm sure one or two will have some suggestions to give.

Talking First of all...

...STAND UP STRAIGHT! Especially when you're taking a picture. Better posture can take 10 lbs. off. & I always find that imagining the pain of having to start over is enough to keep me consistent in the gym! GOOD LUCK!
