Growing People or People Growing or ...

Growing People... bring two similar images to mind...

The scene in the original "The Thing From Another World" (James Arness in the title role) where the chief scienist has planted the seeds recovered from the severed hand of the alien using human blood plasma... He has a planter with several tomato plant like things with pulusating roughly human shaped pods hanging from them... One of the scientists listens to one of the pods and says that, "It sounds like the cry of a new born baby that's hungery..."

The other is from the Matrix movies and the towers covered with simitranspearent sacks each holding an infant human. And the machines were harvesting them to be "transplanted" into the power system...

People Growing on the other hand suggests people getting bigger... word order is important in english since we don't mark words as subject and object (except by position) and we can make nouns into verbs and verbs into nouns quite easily.

Another form would be People being made to grow by an outside agent...

In english nouns generally don't have a "case" although some pronouns do... example the pronoun he, him, his (subject, object, possesive cases) but the nouns chair, table or the name 'John' are the same in subject and object usage and you get the possesive case by a 's to the word...

In generally sentences are built SUBJECT - VERB - OBJECT where the subject performs an action (verb) on the object... or just SUBJECT - VERB where the subject just performs an action (verb) examples "John eats lunch" or "John eats" both make sense but "Eating lunch" is sort of weird... what is eating the lunch...

It really doesn't matter I was just trying to explain why "Growing People" evoked images of people hanging like fruit on a tree and being picked...

I think I get it

Ok Ender, I believe you talked about the order in the sentence because "Growing People" is not a complete sentence. It has, according to your analysis, a VERB AND AN OBJECT.
But it doesn't have a SUBJECT. Is that right?

A synonym would be "The action of harvesting people"?

Thanks for your analytical input,

Diego.

My guess would be the ability to make people grow.
