Mat Duvall Dead? I've been hearing/seeing rampant rumors on the internet that one of my favorite all time musclegods, Mat Duvall (who is a real sweetheart on FB, by the way) has died. Please someone tell me this isn't true; he's only 40 years old. Can anyone confirm this? __________________ Hulkoutlvr |

How sad, I you read the posts he seems to have been a real nice guy. I used to always check out the mags when he was in them. God bless Matt. TC __________________ "You gotta let yourself go. Get some SIZE into it" |

Also hate to say it but I suspect steroids or some other bodybuilding 'supplement' involved in this too. I love big muscle men but it kills me to keep seeing people literally dying to be big. It seems that we see more and more muscle men dying earlier and earlier deaths while guys from older generations like Schwarzenegger and hid pals, who also did roids, are still alive and healthy. Something has changed in the sport and it has not been for the better. |

Someone who doesn't sugar coat things? Yes. At any rate, I removed the comment since it will probably cause (insert whatever word you want). However. . . That guy thought my simplistic post was so riveting that he quoted my original comment in his post, meaning it's there for all to see. Oh well. Though you've pretty much said what I said, just without being so direct. So either way the point gets across. It's a sad point, but then again, talking about anything that can contribute to one's demise just leads to a case of the saddie-waddies. |

Nice cowardly personal reply you sent trying to justify yourself. I have zero feelings towards Matt Duvall - don't know the guy. Can't say the pics even look familiar. But this guy was a human.... Had friends, family, etc. You don't have to celebrate him or construct a shrine of worship. But if you can't have a basic amount of manners and politeness , you should shut the fuck up. A man is DEAD. "Meh" indeed. You can delete your comment to try to look better. Ill leave my quoting so when future people search on your name they'll still see it. Enjoy. |

Removed anyway. So the only person left sullying this topic is Bigm999. Good job, Big! Last edited by Rarity; March 12th, 2013 at 10:46 PM. Reason: bcuz Yachirobi keeps using the wrong Internet terms huhuhuhuhu |

Now you're both having a flame war and no one wants to hear it. Stop. |

Rarity's now been banned for 7 Days. My reason to him: "There's a difference between being honest, and acting like a total brat towards others. Know the difference." This applies not only to his original comments, but the reasons he added for editing his prior posts, which devolved to nothing more but petulant taunting. Grow up. |

Good Grief I apologize if my question opened this can of worms. For what it's worth, I asked because I was a huge fan of Mat Duvall and, if I were to confess, had a huge crush on him. When he first came on FB, I sent him a friend request and he accepted it and was so sweet. We private messaged a few times. I'm sure he knew I was into him, but if he had any misgivings about it, he kept them to himself and was never hurtful about it. It truly upsets me that he died. What upsets me perhaps the most is knowing that because of my love of muscle, I'm wondering if I'm not feeding the need for these guys to be so huge and therefore putting their health at risk. Please don't laugh at me or be snide. Mat was my "friend", even if just on Facebook. It hurts me that he's dead. He was nice. __________________ Hulkoutlvr |

I have to say that Matt DuVall was one of the biggie BB's I drooled over, even though he didn't seem to win a lot of contests. He certainly caught my attention and together with Matarrazzo, always was in the monster category. Its all a big sadness to see he's gone at a relatively young age. Its a timely reminder that all of life is a risk, its given as a gift and tomorrow is always provisional. D.V. and all that |

Mat DuVal Wow. What a shame to hear that Mat DuVal is dead. I met him at the 2004 Arnold and shook his hand. He was a very pleasant, well built guy and he seemed to have a lot of time for his fans. He lived and trained in Northern Virginia, outside of Washington, DC. I heard that he trained at the Gold's gym in the Ballston neighborhood. It's a stop on the DC metro. Regardless of his cause of death, he was still pretty inspirational as a bodybuilder with his wide shoulders, big arms and legs and great conditioning. I will miss seeing him in the mags. R.I.P. I just want to say that cardiovascular disease was responsible for 1 in 3 of all US deaths in 2008 (per Wikipedia anyway), so there really isn't enough information here to draw conclusions about what caused Mat's death. Any speculation about the connection between steroids and heart disease (or cancer or anything, really) will remain speculation until certain restrictions are lifted and large-scale studies can be done. People die, some of them at a relatively young age. I think the people who want to point a finger at certain choices are just fooling themselves into thinking that they can avoid tragedy if they just do the "right things." You can do the "right things" 100% of the time, but you can't prevent tragedy. I didn't know Mat, but it sounds like he was a kind and friendly guy, and that suggests to me that his life had great value, to others and probably to himself. No one knows how long they have in this life, and all we can do is try our best to reach our goals, and to be kind to each other, and it sounds like Mat did that. |

i just wanted to say that i'm glad Rarity was banned. he does nothing but post incendiary comments in almost every thread that he posts in. |

and look, everyone, you know what? steroids, growth hormones, diuretics, cutting agents, IGF... there is almost no aspect of the Muscle community that doesnt involve some degree of substances that can potentially be very harmful. those small totally ripped Cross Fit-type guys take potentially harmful performance-enhancing substances too, you know. it's not just an epidemic limited to the mass monsters. that being said, it's my opinion that nobody, NOBODY on this forum has any right or any clout to pout their lips like Rarity and spit venom in others' faces in the wake of a muscle man's early death, sneering shit to the effect of "well he had it coming because he abused drugs." if you're on this forum at all, you support some degree of Harmful Substances, whether you like it or not. show me a muscle dude that's totally substance-free; prove to me that he's totally substance free. i tell you, we would all be hard-pressed to do so. |

1 in 3 but by what average age? How regularly does that happen to 40 year olds? |

Heart Disease prevalence among men, 35+ years of age in U.S. Quote:
http://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/maps/pdfs/hd_men.pdf This is an explanation of the tracking protocol used by the CDC(Center for Disease Control and Prevention) explaining how it works: http://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/ncvdss/index.htm This is a partial listing of facts about heart disease in men: http://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/data_statis..._men_heart.htm Heart Disease Facts in Men ?Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in the United States, killing 307,225 men in 2009?that?s 1 in every 4 male deaths.1 ?Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men of most racial/ethnic groups in the United States, including African Americans, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Hispanics, and whites. For Asian American or Pacific Islander men, heart disease is second only to cancer.2 ?About 8.5% of all white men, 7.9% of black men, and 6.3% of Mexican American men have coronary heart disease.3 ?Half of the men who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms.3 Even if you have no symptoms, you may still be at risk for heart disease.?Between 70% and 89% of sudden cardiac events occur in men.3 NOTE 1: NOTE asymptomatic coronary heart disease. People DO just literally "drop dead" with no warning. Being a bodybuilder doesn't necessarily predispose you to that condition. Remember Jim Fixx, famous runner, who died suddenly at age 55. Risk Factors High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease. About half of Americans (49%) have at least one of these three risk factors.4 Several other medical conditions and lifestyle choices can also put people at a higher risk for heart disease, including: ?Diabetes ?Overweight*** and obesity ?Poor diet ?Physical inactivity ?Excessive alcohol use ***[Emphasis added: "Overweight" category could include athletes whose Body Mass Indices are high, due to significant muscle mass. They could have high BMIs. The real issue is their cardiovascular health, which is not correlated to BMI. ] |

Oops, spoke too soon..... Quote:
See the result of the following Canadian study on the correlation between high BMI and heart and cancer related deaths: "CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate significant relationships between BMI and mortality from all causes, CVD and cancer. The increased risk of all-cause, CVD and cancer mortality associated with an elevated BMI was significant at levels above 30 kg/m2; however, overweight individuals (BMI 25-29.9 kg/m2) also had an approximately 60% higher risk of CVD mortality." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22530540 |

Finally, an answer to your question.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._death_by_rate Halfway down the page is a list of causes of death, in the United States, by age. Heart disease, by far, is the greatest single cause of death, as indicated on the charts. Mdlftr |

Half the posts here are out of place to the thread I think you guys should take the discussin some where else.. And burle did you notice rarity removed his comments but bigm99 kept them there?? At least he had the decency to delete them. You guys need to take thes hate posts some where else insted of stinking up Matt D's thread or mail rarity to rant but he's banned so I don't think that helps. Shame on you guys making mor drama in this topic. Even if you got reasons to its still really rude to do it in this topic! ty to the fiew who stayed on topic I don't like seeing all these posts that don't belong here. BBs deserve our respect and dont deserve to have people making all this fus. |

Thank you Tundy When I began this thread, it was only because I hoped someone could deny the rumors that Mat was gone and prove it, because Mat was a great guy and very sweet to me in private FB messages. Not only was his body beautiful, but he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. I mentioned him on here hoping people would have good things to say about him. It makes me sad that so much negativity has come out of something I started. Administrators: I am asking if there is any way you can close this thread, please do so. I am sorry I started something that has put a cloud of cynicism and suspicion over the death of a guy I liked and admired. Of course you are really the ones to judge whether the thread is offensive or not. I'm simply saying close it if you wish. To the cynics out there, I leave this thought. All of us on here, I am assuming, love, are obsessed with, or on one level or another turned on by bodybuilders/musclemen. If these guys feel the obsessive need to constantly get bigger and stronger, sometimes at a cost that involves their life, it is not due, at least in tiny part, to the fact that they have a fan base that feeds off of it? And do they, at least in part, not feed off the attention we give them? I have been wrestling with this question for the past few days, and, I am beginning to have the same feelings that I had about buying tabloids after Princess Diana died at the hands of paparazzi. I'm beginning to wonder if, with my obsession, I am contributing, at least a little bit, to the cycle (no pun intended) that these bodybuilders get caught up in. And I ask, please no more bad comments. The true cause of Mat's death (whatever it was) is not important. What is important is that a nice guy, someone I liked, is gone. Would you guys be making these same comments if your friend/boyfriend/partner/husband died as a result of unsafe performance enhancers? Quote:

Burlemarx, your angry reaction was just as uncalled for as Rarity's, perhaps even worse. Perhaps he said something some of us didn't want to hear, but there's no reason to savage him; and as for the steroid issue, i have no involvement; I am merely here, that is all.. To my understanding Rarity's only temp-banned for a week; indeed, if this is about that single sentence- I expect it's deeper- it would be quite extreme.A permaban? Unreasonable. We make mistakes; sometimes we're harsh and caustic and hurt the feelings of others, or lack respect; such is the way of human beings; get over it. Such is the price of freedom of speech. "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." And a loss of any kind takes a bit of the world with it, a little darker than it was. . .
