Big in teenage years?

Most of the posters talk about starting to develop muscle mass in their early twenties or older, myself included. Are there any guys who were already big in their late teens? I note that Stonguns talks about his 17 year old brother hittin 225 at 17, but wonder if this the exception to the rule.

How old were guys when they started to get big?

I'm a nineteen year old bodybuilder, and you can check out my videos here:

What's big is all relative, I've been at it five years but my friends at the gym say I'll gain twice as fast once I hit 21 years.

I have actually been 230 when I was 19. I started lifting at age 15 and grew quite a bit in these early years...

Had a kid in my high school who could bench 400 pounds at 17. Guy was a monster. Made everyone look tiny. In the US there are plenty of kids in their teens who lift for football and easily hit 225 or more.

Tables Turned

Growing up, a friend of mine was pretty big & strong by the time he was 13. I'm not sure of his weight at that time but he was at least 5' 9" and I remember he had 16" arms 'cause he measured them in front of me. He was just naturally strong and muscular. When I first met him, when he was about age 7 or 8, he had big arms. His dad and grandfather were big also. He began lifting weights with an older kid when he was 11 so, along with great genetics, this accounted for his size by 13.

Before my friend turned 13, there was a 20-something, skinny, dweeby, neighbor guy who used to put my friend in headlocks and shit. He was (supposedly) only messing with a little kid the way a lot of grownups did but I always believed he did it because there were no older guys with whom he could control this way. Then the tables turned. By 13, my friend was pressing him over his head, humiliating him with forced arm wrestling matches, and performing his own headlocks with big, 16" arms. Man, did he choose the WRONG kid to pick on!

I know teens-late adulthood can be the best time to put on muscle, but it's still quite possible later, right? I'm 32 and have considered trying to build some muscle. I assume it'll be harder to do but not impossible.

In other words, I can put it on and take it off pretty easily (if I put my mind to it (see Age 29 and Ages 40-43); still I'm bigger at 55 than I was at any point in my teens, 20s, or 30s.

So, yes, you definitely can continue to make progress, regardless of your age!

Richard,
What a great idea! I'm sure I've got my sizes written down - I just never thought of posting them sequentially like that! Did you get the information from workout notes you kept?

In high school I was pretty shy so I never actually talked to any of the big guys, but I remember that (surprisingly enough!) I sat next to a really huge guy in my Calculus class. He was easily the hugest guy there, bigger than our teacher, though I never actually asked him how big this kid was (damn my awkward adolescence!), probably six feet tall and really buff.

It was so hard not to stare at his biceps flex when he was writing during the tests. I think the only thing that prevented me from openly gaping at his arms was the fear of being caught "cheating"

Most professional bodybuilders today have a genetic structure that allow them to put on muscle easier than the average person. My brother and I were always the most muscular kids in school, but that is purely genetics our mother was broad shouldered, big boned and had a "manly" body, my father has always been lean and muscular so we were lucky to inherit those traits. I wrestled so I had to fight to keep in my weight class because my body wanted to get bigger. It wasn't until I quit wrestling and dieting to make weight that I was able to truly put on mass. I see kids with great potential all the time, but that doesn't mean that they are the only ones who can put on muscle. For some people its is much more difficult but they can still improve their physiques greatly with proper diet and exercise.

You're an easy-gainer, huh? Lucky! Wish I had genetics like that

Cody looks a little older than his late teens to me, although I have no reason to doubt his age since, presumably, the NPC verified it.

Years ago, I remember mention being made in this forum of a young powerlifter and bodybuilder in "Powerlifter USA" magazine who purportedly had a 60-inchest--AT THE AGE OF 12!! And, no, I am NOT talking about Richard Sandrak! Can anyone in this forum verify this claim? If so, I'd like to find out what issue of that magazine he was featured in! If his story is true, and if he kept up his training from then until now, he'd be a MONSTER! He'd just about be the human equivalent to the Belgian Blue and Piedmontese cattle breeds!!
