This guy's web site says he is 19 stone and 7 pounds. Every time I see a weight given in stones, I have to go look up the conversion because I can never remember if it is 1 pound more than 15, or 1 pound less than 15; having just looked it up, it is 16 pounds per stone, making this guy 273 pounds. As I understand it, the UK uses a somewhat mixed weights and measures system, some things being measured and sold using metric measures, and some things using imperial measures. If I understand correctly, only body weight is measured in stones and pounds. My question is why? And if it the weight is given in stones and pounds, why not just use pounds, or just use stones with decimal places, as in this guy weighs 19.375 stone? I'm comfortable doing metric to imperial conversions in my head, but those damn stones always trip me up. Just curious if anyone knows the reason? Dunno where you looked it up, but a stone is 14 pounds As for the reason, it's just historical/cultural thing, probably out of habit. I don't know about the UK, but in Aus its use is fading. Pretty much only older people talk about stones and pounds. We've been metric since the 70s, so only people who were adults then even remember the old system. |

Leave Nathan alone. He can do whatever he wants. He's about the biggest and most muscular active member we have in here. He has elite/ celebrity status. And I'm dying to meet him. |

Stones are used for body weights and strongman implement weights and other crap that you often have two eyeball. I always envied the English in having a way of referring to body weights where there would be a visible difference, you gain or loose 14 pounds someone will notice, you can loose a pound with a good piss, and a good shit will take off a kilo, no prob. |

Got to admit I was put off by his post in the blog stating that he laughed at another guy's weight loss in the gym as if it were inadequate. That's just sad. |

=============================================== Whilst i was at the gym this morning i was watching a personnal trainer train a man who was very much overweight. I heard him say how since he has been with this personnal trainer he has lost 4 pounds in 12 weeks. I stopped and laughed to myself 4 pounds in 12 weeks. then started to think about the time 2 years ago when i was 27 stone and doing strongman/powerlifting. I remeber getting injured doing a heavy squat and at that time i was training for power and strength. i started to think what made me want to lose weight and shed my fat etc etc. I then came home from the gym today and looked at pics of what i used to look like when i was overweight and it hit me , WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE SO DEDICATED TO LOSE 7 STONE IN 6 MONTHS. I started to recap over what i did to lose the weight 1.3 hours a day on stair master 2.1000-1500 calories a day 3.Hitting heavy weights everyday 4.Took control over my mindset. I also started to think how i had such a good friend who owns a gym guide me and help me to shift the fat and get from 27 stone to 20 stone on stage for a competition. He was a like my own personnal trainer. The key i found to losing weight was that i wanted to. I had a goal and i wanted to shed fat and lose weight. I took control over my mind set and said to myself everyday the goal is a day closer. Hence why ifeel this was my biggest accomplishment in my life so far and there will be more to come. Thanks reading and following THE BODYBUILDING GIANT ================================================== ====== |

Hope he won't mind me saying this, but Nathan is competing on Sunday. I've seen his latest pic and I've never seen him look so good. I know he's really suffering for his art at the moment, but whatever happens anyone who can be so dedicated and put in so much effort deserves to be recognised. For anyone to get even close to that condition is a huge achievement and I'll never know how they do it and still hold down a full time job too. I know he has a lot of fans on here so I thought it might be nice to wish him luck and send him some love. He'd probably rather we each sent him a tenner, but I want to retire at 35 to a private island in the Caribbean and that's not going to happen either. |
