Wow. I'd like to see him just a LITTLE less emaciated - the vascularity is amazing. Also I have a suspicion (based on the apparent shape and tonus of the chest muscle) that he's too "dry" which suggests he's doing some sort of hydration trick just before a contest. That's really dangerous - diuretics have killed before, and getting enough water into the cells without overdoing it is a hard thing to achieve.

mango is an unknown quantity at this point
unhealthy looking

Yeah there was a big guy who died just before a contest a decade or so ago and he died because of the drugs that shake out the body's water to show that skin tight look. Too much of that can sometimes kill like running in and out of traffic.

Even so, the abs are incredible - so huge and with such deep separation.

"A" big guy? Try "a whole bunch of them". A quick search found several names: Andy Rody, Mohammed Benaziza, Andreas Munzer, Mahmoud Ibrahim Alhdidi... To say nothing of bodybuilders who haven't died, but came close (as in "started convulsing or passed out on stage"), like Albert Beckles, Mike Matarazzo, or Paul Dillet. And there are a lot of instances of people being carried off to the hospital backstage before contests, too.

Basically: don't take diuretics unless you actually have a condition that requires them. They're nearly as dangerous as insulin (except that insulin is likely to just kill you within an hour or two, whereas diuretics are likely to lull you into thinking you've gotten away with taking them for a week or so, right up to the point where you suddenly pass out).

Yeah, I was thinking of Benaziza, but I didn't know about Munzer or Alhdidi, and I hadn't heard of Andy Rody.

I think that they should test for diuretics, not steroids.

Mdlftr will become famous soon enough
another factor involved...

...in Mr. Ashkanani's pictures is the use of filters which both heighten the contrast and sharpen the focus at the same time. Somewhere else on this forum someone commented on the recent overuse of this technique in bodybuilding magazines. Everything becomes sepia-colored and it heightens and clarifies all the details.

I don't remember what this filter or the process are called. Anyone else know?

Second, I totally agree that the overuse of diuretics is killing bodybuilders. Diuretics are typically used for conditions such as congestive heart failure, where fluid accumulates in body tissues, particularly the lungs. The heart is unable to pump as strongly or as efficiently as it should and fluid accumulates. Lasix is a diuretic commonly prescribed to draw the fluid out of your system and make you more comfortable. It doesn't cure the heart condition, but it treats the symptom.

Using it for bodybuilding purposes is a truly unhealthy off label use!

I remember some of those bodybuilders who died: Benaziza and Andreas Munzer, particularly!!
