Winter is the best time for bulking up

Comfort food, the holidays, and cold weather make it easier to gain weight. Winter is the time to lift heavy in the gym, eat lots of food, and add muscle to your frame. Spring is the time to cut and be ready for the beach in the summer.

I find that my appetite spikes in the winter, I am hungry for comfort food, so it is the best time to pursue a weight gaining program

I think there is something in this relating to evolution ... less plants to gather and hunting also possibly more difficult depending on weather. So something in us is telling us to "store fat". Then spring comes and it's time to get fit and primed for longer hunting treks and gathering expeditions.

Found a supporting article that touches on other concepts like how less sunlight can have an affect:

Whether bulking or cutting its important to enjoy your diet, the food must taste good. In the winter I find the wholesome comfort foods are almost addictive so its a great time for packing on the pounds. Once it gets hot outside then it becomes easier to cut and salads are often good enough for dinner. I have to say I prefer the winter to the summer, its more fun putting on mass than it is to get cut.
