Shazam! Brandon Molale and The Rock are currently in talks for a new Captain Marvel movie. Brandon does have the chin for The Big Red Cheese. |

As far as The Rock goes... I think it'd be a huge casting mistake. I mean, they could peg the movie as a comedy... but I think that'd disrespect the character. The Rock... is not a good actor. He can make a joke here and there, he can even go off on a monolouge. But casting him as a Super Hero is just... bleh. That'd be a worse idea than the Green Arrow movie in the works. |

Well, I'm assuming The Rock would be Black Adam? |

From the sites I've been looking at, it hasn't given any indication he'd be playing the villian, rather the Powered up Super-kid, Captain Marvel. |

If they make a Captain Marvel movie that is anything other than a comedy it would be a huge mistake. This is a guy who hangs out with a talking tiger in a suit and his enemy is a really smart earth worm. It's meant to be funny. Any "serious" CMs have been nods to fads. The character, like Plasticman, is much more of a humorous character than Supes, Bats, etc. (Not that those haven't ever had humorous incarnations too, like the Batman TV show). |

I don't know how Brandon Molale has escaped my notice, but my! my! John August, who wrote Go, Big Fish, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and the Charlie's Angels movies is currently attached as screenwriter. That's a pretty diverse resume, so he can probably handle this movie well, whether it's a campy approach or a brooding one. You can read about his thoughts on the project -- as well as readers' thoughts on casting -- on his blog: here (Captain Marvel Reader) and here. I know nothing about Captain Marvel, but from the one-sentence description of Black Adam, I would go for The Rock in that role rather than as The Big Red Cheese. |
