The Roommate - A bodybuilding fantasy..

[Author's note: For everyone (myself included) who has ever had a problem with "motivation" and wished they could get some help....Enjoy!]

The Roommate - A bodybuilding fantasy

?Would you like to be that big??

The question comes at you out of left field. You jump, startled from your gaze at the computer screen. You?ve been at the Andreas Frey website again, drinking in his smooth, chiseled, awesome mass, and your roommate has come into the room, in that quiet way he has, and sidelined you with that question.

Except it really isn?t a question, so much as an acknowledgement of what any idiot with half an eye and a mind could see about you. You love muscle. BIG muscle. Muscle that swells, full and round, out of a man?s chest ? his shoulders, his thighs, his back ? his ass. You love the way it looks, the way it moves. You?ve used so much bandwidth downloading the famous waddle sequence of Bautista; you?d think you owned stock in Comcast web services. You?ve spent hours, literally, reading and rereading ?Education of a Bodybuilder? about Ah-nuld and his famous quest for muscle, power and fame. You?ve agonized with Mentzer (that face! Those tris! Those arms?that chest!) over his loss at the 1980 Olympia. You?ve seen every ?model? on Muscle.com, you religiously do the searches on ?BigMuscle.com? where you plug in your height and weight and see what the guys look like. You?ve commented on ?MuscleGrowth Stories? so often that you?re practically on a first screen name basis with all the regulars --- you know their stats, their approximate ages and who?s a serious lifter and who?s just a voyeur?like you.

Except you aren?t?. not quite?a voyeur, that is. You?ve LIFTED weights?for years. Off and on, not as consistently as you probably should, but you?ve put in time. And you?ve grown?not enough for you, but you?ve grown. 15-20..25 pounds, most of it muscle. You can raise a decent horseshoe on the backs of your arms. Your chest is no longer completely flat?you have thick ridges on the sides and bottom, and a tantalizingly thin layer of muscle at the very top, where your cleavage is (barely) discernable. Your legs have some sideways mass on your upper thighs. Your hamstrings have a cute little swell at the back of your legs, especially when you curl one of your long legs up to your butt. Your butt ? nicely swelling and rounded, but that?s a least partly genetic. You?re one of these ?tall drinks of water? (as your mother used to say - God, how you hated that) with long legs and arms, a narrow torso, low body fat, and good endurance. You?re frustrated?yeah, who wouldn?t be? You?ve spent years, probably wasting a lot of them, not sure what you were ?supposed? to be doing, while it seemed that the whole rest of the gym (all the ?Mr. 5 x 5s?) got thick and bulgy and built.

Your roommate is one of those guys ? built and short. You met him about 6 months back, at one of the street fairs in the neighborhood. You were just strolling around, looking at the various craft and food booths, and you got to talking with this guy at the ?chicken on a stick? stand. He?s short to your 6?3?, probably about 5?8?, certainly no taller than 5?9?. (Later you?re shocked to discover that he?s actually 5?10? but somehow seems shorter because of his wide back and shoulders.) He?s dark, Mediterranean, kind of like those generic ?heroes? on the covers of a romance novel. He?s handsome, with thick, dark, curly hair, and long, thick dark lashes over large, expressive brown eyes. His heavy black eyebrows and his thick musculature keep him from being ?pretty?. He is stacked. He?s got the kind of build that you?ve always admired ? wide shoulders, huge chest and arms, narrow waist, and thick, swelling legs. A terrific ?x? shape, he?s casual about it, wearing khaki hiking shorts with short dark boots and white socks, and a terrific gold colored v-necked t-shirt that sets his olive skin off to perfection. If you had to guess, you?d say Greek or Italian. He?s got that muscular, masculine air of casual confidence in himself and his capabilities that you remember from the jocks in school. Except he?s different. For one thing, he?s friendly. He smiles a lot. And he?s smart. Like you, he has a doctorate from a nationally ranked professional school. He?s got all the right professional accomplishments, from the well-paying job, to the publications in peer-reviewed journals, to the requests to serve on panels and present at conferences, yadda, yadda, yadda.

You and he start talking casually, exchanging observations about the fair, the booths, and the ?chicken on a stick.? He?s funny, you?re funny ? you share a sense of humor and you?re soon actually laughing at the absurdity of it all?the goofy vendors, the wide array of ?urban types? who prowl the booths, looking for a deal. Talking turns into an offer to go for coffee made and accepted. You finally part, after four hours (!) the time having flown by, with a promise to meet up again ?soon?.

?Soon? turns into next week, when he calls you out of the blue, and, amazingly, you actually have time for lunch. You go and have a great time. You get to talking about stuff: life, work, family. He?s single, as are you. He?s from a large family, but he doesn?t see them much, since they all live on the other side of the country. You are the same. He?s sort of ?knocking around? between work, travel for work and just hanging. You are the same again. Talk finally goes to living arrangements, and the high cost of apartments in the city. You mention, casually, that your lease termination is coming up soon, and how you?d like to check out the new apartments in a certain neighborhood. He confesses that he?s in an illegal sublet, and he is looking to move. You decide to go check out the new place, together, after work. You?re just buds, going over to check it out. The little frisson of excitement is doubtless due to your excitement at the idea of something new.

The apartments are amazing ? spacious, with lots of natural light, and good amenities. They are near everything- the subway, the stores, work, and, he mentions, the gym. Your ears perk up at this. This is the first time he?s mentioned anything about how he got that amazing body of his. You shoot off a smart alecky comment, ?Oh, you work out?? and he grins, knowing you?re busting him. He steps over to you, gets right in front of you and flexes his chest and arms, hard. His thick mass is evident, even through the dress shirt and tie. He stares you right in the eye, with a cocky grin, and looks over at your chest, then back at his own. ?Not as much as you, obviously!?

You laugh, then reach over and grab him in a headlock, ?Be careful, sonny, or I?ll beat you up!?

The two of you wrestle around like kids, grabbing each other?s head and shoulders, pushing, turning shoving. It?s fun. When it?s over, you stand facing each other. ?Jerk,? he says, with a big grin. ?Dork,? you say, grinning back. You?re both breathing a little harder, dress shirts mussed, hair askew. This is what a pair of Ph.D.s look like on a Friday afternoon after work?and a ?civilized? wrestling match. You lock eyes a bit longer, sizing each other up. He?s definitely got the mass and strength. You?ve got the height and leverage. Call it a draw?for now.

?So, you wanna go in on a place, or what?? he asks.

?Only if you promise not to cry when I whip your sorry butt,? you shoot back.

?Done. You?ll be the one?s who?s sorry when I pound you,? he mock-threatens, raising one huge arm.

You step over into his space (this is so unlike you, what?s gotten into you?) and say, ?Yeah, you and what army?? He growls and throws a fake punch, then jumps back when you retaliate with a fake karate chop. Like kids. You?re like a couple of kids. It?s very unlike either of you?but it?s fun.

You move in, and are sharing the space. You each get into your routine: work, travel, work. At least that?s your routine. His is the same, except he somehow finds time to hit the gym. You ask him about how he finds the time. He shrugs, ?I just do,? and you drop it. Sure, you?d like to go work out, but there just isn?t time. You?d secretly love to be big, but that doesn?t fit with your image, your profession, and your job. You resign yourself to life.

The months go on. You and he enjoy the banter, when you?re both around. You admire his dedication to his workouts (and the results). You wish it could be different for you, but it isn?t.

Until the day he ?catches? you at the computer.

You look up.

Flushed, surprised, you blurt out the first thing that comes to mind.

?YES!?

He smiles. In the dim light from the computer screen, he almost looks demonic, menacing. His wide shoulders, bare chest with over hanging pecs and huge arms are there, in your face, crowding your space. Has he always been this big, this massive, this intimidating? His dark brows seem to intensify his stare, as he fixes his eyes on your face and bares his teeth. ?Good. I was wondering how long it would take you to say that. Stand up.?

You stand, automatically. Your actions are almost Pavlov an. He speaks, and you obey. You WANT this. You DO actually want to be big. You like his muscle, his size, his confidence. That whole cocky, jocky air he has about him. The sweat running down his back and darkening his shirts when he comes home from the gym. You notice the thick, heavy pump in chest and legs, the effort it takes to move his thick, pumped legs on leg day. You like the bounce in his step, the whistling he does on rest days, when his energy is back up, miraculously refreshed after a good night?s sleep. You want this for yourself?the peace of mind, the serenity in knowing you?ve tested your body to the limits and have proven yourself?again.

And now, he?s about to show you.

?Let?s go. Get dressed.? He throws your workout shorts and top at you.

?Wha?.? It?s 11 p.m. Where are we going??

?The gym. My gym. OUR gym. It stays open all night, 7 days a week ? which you?d know if you ever bothered to check.? He seems almost offended at your not knowing this.

?But,..I..?

?No excuses!? He raises his voice for the first time and steps in closer, invading your space. ?Get dressed ? we?re going to work out ---NOW!? This last is said in a tone of quiet menace, his dark eyes boring into yours. You?ve never seen him this intense.

You both go out to the gym. There he proceeds to take you through a full body workout. It is intense, with emphasis on good form and ?feeling? the weight working on your muscles, rather than just heavy weights. He explains every step, every phase of what you are doing, and why you are doing it. At the end of it, only an hour after you began, you feel invigorated, alive, and strong. He smiles when you say this, and says, ?And it only gets better, believe me!? Then he throws you a post workout protein drink, and starts talking diet on the way to the door.

At home, you strip off your sweat soaked t-shirt and stop to take a look in the mirror. You are PUMPED! Each muscle group that you have worked, oh, so many times before, is full and almost striated, tight with blood. You flex, a big smile on your face. Your roommate stands behind you, smiling, and says, ?Just think. In a few months you?ll look like that all the time. You won?t have to pump!? You grin back at him in the mirror, saying, ?I?m there! And then I?ll kick your ass!? He growls and jumping forward, puts you in a headlock. You mock-wrestle, then break it off. Time to hit the showers and hit the sack.

The next day you feel pleasantly sore, but not painfully so. That night, after work, you and he go to gym again, and he puts you through another full body workout, hitting different muscle groups with different exercises. Again, the protein drink at the end, and again the playful rough housing. You?re both loving it.

And so it continues. The weeks fall into a pattern- lifting 4 days a week, 3 days of rest, with light cardio, and constant lectures on form, diet and motivation. And what motivation! All of a sudden your roommate doesn?t seem to own any clothing sized any way except ?tight? and ?skin tight?. When you ask him where these clothes came from, he grins and replies that he?d been saving them for a ?special occasion?. When you ask what is the special occasion, he replies, ?You?re getting off your ass and into the gym!?

He?s such a wise ass! When you go out, he takes every opportunity to comment to you, how much each passing male on the street can probably lift, ?100# bench, 200 # squat, 300# dead lift ? when he gets his ass out of bed in the morning!? You join in the game, and don?t even think about when he and you became so judgmental about other guy?s bodies. Women are fair game, too, but only if they ?look unattached.? The ones who look ?married, or too old,? are ignored. Brutal, but authentic. You enjoy the banter; after all, it isn?t hurting anyone, is it? No one can hear it except him and you.

You become aware, in a way you never were before, on how out of shape most people are. With that awareness comes a subtle shift in attitude. You start to think of the out of shape folks as somehow lacking, deficient in some drive or force. Mediocrities who are afraid to rise above the herd. What happened to your easy-going acceptance of all sizes and shapes of people? When did you become a body-Nazi? But who has time to think about that?it?s time to work shoulders- or legs or (best of all) Chest! Each perfectly executed rep brings you that much closer to a completed workout, and the enjoyable pump and rush of endorphins to your muscles. Soon you will be adding another plate to the bar, another rep to the set.

All of this means more strength, which, eventually, inevitably, means more size. You love it. Your roommate loves it. Long gone are your full sleeve workout shirts. It?s sleeveless now, all the time, every season of the year. Pants give way to shorts ?baggy, but short, the better to show off the thighs, and hamstrings and gastrocs. What is the heat in gyms for? It?s to keep your muscles loose, and allow you to wear the least restrictive clothing there is?the better to work and flush your muscles with blood. It also makes checking out your progress in the mirrors much easier. Your roommate is a huge help in that regard. He points out your weak points: flat ass, shallow chest, pipe stem arms and stick legs.

As the months pass, and the workouts begin to have their inevitable effect, you begin to fill out. You get stronger, and you definitely get BIGGER! You love it! Your chest ridges swell and flow across your middle and upper chest. You now have full, solid plates of chest muscle, from the base of your neck, to below your nipples and out past your armpits. Your roommate is a particular help here, since he LOVES bench press and chest work in all its forms, and he is an expert teacher. Patient, thorough and relentless, he takes you through the form and the motions time after time, until, despite a lifetime of ?doing it wrong,? you now do it right. And the results are superb! Your chest grows. It develops weight, mass and curves. You no longer have to turn sideways, hunch your shoulders together and squeeze to find some semblance of muscle. No, you?re standing straight and tall, shoulders back. Your pecs are swelling out in front of you, thick and heavy. Even when you stretch your shoulders back and put your arms behind you, trying to make the pecs stretch out flat, there is still a noticeable, thick ridge of muscle across your torso. When you let your arms return to your sides, your pecs swell out massively in their natural resting position. Arching out from the base of your neck, they sweep out and down, thrusting out into space. They are so thick and heavy that they jut out from your abs. They are so broad that your arms are pushed back from your sides. When you look down, you have to lean forward from the waist to see your feet, since your chest is in the way! It?s such a rush!

Your roommate loves it. He measures you constantly, muttering to himself about ?a bit more thickness here on the upper pecs, more sweep on the outer edge?? He touches you constantly, cupping your growing chest with care, testing, probing checking your progress and hardness. He encourages you to lift more, have another turkey burger, go to bed NOW to get more rest. He is always there, pushing, cajoling, and exhorting you. When you have moments of self-doubt, he reminds you of all the fat, out of shape pathetic dweebs out there ? ?What would you rather look like?that or this?? At this point he flexes his guns and pops his awesome pecs.

He is a demon when it comes to working legs. You literally work so hard and intensely that you puke during every other leg workout. He doesn?t care. He watches you closely to make sure you don?t pass out or hit your head on the toilet bowl, then he hands you a towel and glass of water to rinse out the foul taste of vomit. Then it?s back to finish the set! Later, he gives you props for ?being a man, and making it through the pain. That?s how you?ll grow. You?ll see.? And grow you do. Your ?stick? legs rapidly swell with muscle. It seems like overnight, but it?s actually months while the muscle starts to pack up on your thighs, your hamstrings, your gastrocs, your glutes. Your ass starts to feel like you?re sitting on a pillow, it becomes so full and round. Your thighs become snug in your pants, as the waist gets smaller and tighter with muscle.

Your roommate is there through it all. He guides you, challenges you, and encourages your efforts. He insulates you from the outside world and from any distractions or negativity. He takes you shopping at least twice a month for new clothes to cover your growing mass. ?Large? shirts give way to ?Extra Larges? which are followed by ?XXLarges? and so on. Straight leg jeans are replaced by ?relaxed fit?. Your dress clothes become larger, but they are still conservative and appropriate for your work. Work is going well. You still travel to conferences, but now you make sure to always get your workout in. You bring your food ? skinless chicken breasts, rice, and fruit, wherever you go. Colleagues comment on ?how healthy you look,? and it?s true. You have good color, your eyes sparkle and you seem to have boundless energy. Your intelligence is just as apparent: your famous wit at academic conferences is more apparent, while you are asked to write more articles. No one thinks of you as a ?muscle head, just as a respected professional. People ignore your growing size as irrelevant to your qualifications, and some even respect you for your consistency. ?Man, you?ve really gotten big,? they say. ?What?s that like?? ?Great!? you exclaim. ?I feel great. Full of energy. Lots of creative flow. You should try it. It?ll do you good. You?ll see.? They beg off, but respect you for your choices. Life is good.

Your roommate is doing well too. His career is going very well - conferences, seminars, papers. He is a hot commodity. He is also growing. At your urging, he decides to add a few more inches to his chest, bringing himself up to 54? of proud mass. His arms are a ripped 20 inches, and his thighs are hitting 31 inches.

You don?t even know what your measurements are anymore. At first, you followed along with every gain of ? inch, every half- pound of muscle. Somewhere along when your legs hit 28 inches, and your chest passed the 50- inch mark, you stopped paying attention to the numbers on the tape and the scale. Now it?s just the mirror. Your roommate tells you that?s all that matters anyway. Nobody at a show knows or cares how much you weigh. They just care about the sweep of your thighs, the mass and beauty of your arching pecs, the fullness of your bis and tris, the breadth of your shoulders and how they perfectly frame all that wonderful pectoral mass. He has you pose after every workout, carefully examining every curve, every swelling muscle as if it were a specimen under a microscope. Based on his scrutiny, he adjusts your workouts for more swell in the upper pecs, more thickness in the back, more sweep in the quads. You do what he tells you. It?s good. It?s safe and secure. He has your best interests at heart. He knows exactly what to do, and what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Early on, you and he sat down and talked about your goals. He encouraged you to give free rein to your dreams, ?to think of the most outrageous things you?ve ever thought, when it comes to muscle.? And so you did. Triceps like Mentzer, Biceps and pecs like Ahnuld, thighs like Platz, or more recently, Bautista. Forearms like Viator, thick and powerful. And now, months later, you are realizing those goals.

Before, you would have thought this impossible. But now, with your roommate, everything is possible. He?s the perfect coach, cheerleader, training partner and friend anyone could have. Motivation is no longer an issue, so you can focus on your workouts, your goals, the next step towards building the bigger, better you. Sure, you get on each other?s nerves occasionally (who doesn?t) but your shared vision always stays constant, and brings you both to the present. Life is good.

On to the next workout!

I've never quite figured out how (or why) straight boys who are into bodybuilding handle the simmering, pulsating homoeroticism of it all. :-)

Glad you enjoyed the story, but...

[QUOTE=arpeejay]I've never quite figured out how (or why) straight boys who are into bodybuilding handle the simmering, pulsating homoeroticism of it all. :-)

.....!

...It's about MUSCLE growth, period.

To quote Sigmund Freud,

"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

I'd love to have this sort of roommate too...

I actually did have a similar thing with a guy I worked with once... He's the one that got me to accept that it was okay to want a jock body and that getting it wouldn't make me a jerk... I think that was part of why I could never stay with it long enough to see really results on my own...

We were the same height (5'5") but we were completely differ in how we got there he was all arms and legs and wore 28x34 pants. I was still a bit chubbie then and wore 32x29 pants... that's a 5 inch inseam difference that I made up for in my torso... in the months we worked out together I start to close in on what he was lifting and I actually had lats for the first time... doing the "cobra thing" for the first time was a real trip... He managed to get me to join the soccer team he was on the played in the base league... my first time on a sports team... we were the league champ (I had nothing to do with that, I'm still can't kick or throw a ball where I mean for it to go) but it was neat to be part of it just the same.

Shortly after that he decided to get an MBA and went back to school... I miss him still... the only guy I've ever fit close enough to consider hugging him... he was straight and got married during the period we were working out together... I like I am still was confused... and working for the government and having to carry some heavy security clearences being gay was not really an option...

This and the story "Bulk" have caused me to think about my preferences some and I still thing of myself as confused but with leaning toward asexual which to me is cool (not being attract either way make live very simple and I accept that) but if being gay would get me the body I really want I would go that way in a heartbeat...

Like Mdlftr said the point is muscle growth and the way your body feels to you... getting off on your own body has nothing to do with having sex with any one else... it's about self acceptance and that is something every guy should have...

Read this story!

Hey, look what I dug up! This is a well-written story about a developing relationship between two guys. I love the tension between them at the beginning, and the vulnerability of the main character.

By the way, the main character is YOU. Awesome, huh? That point of view, in which the reader is the one who is experiencing what happens, gives it an extra punch.

And if you like this chapter, wait until you finish chapter two. Very hot!

Here's the second part:

I would LOVE to have a roommate like that!

Excellent story. I felt like somebody was reading my mind and relating my own personal experiences about lifting/growth.

Thanks Mdlftr for this really special story. It's beautifully written and I like that it is about real, actual feasible growth - no magic potions or clothes. It also carries the reader along as you describe the developing relationship between the two guys. The longing and the aspiration for growth and muscle are really sexy.

Thanks, bigdave!

That's what I was trying to express: realistic growth achieved through your own efforts, with motivation from a like-minded friend!

I am very flattered and humbled by all the responses - this story seems to articulate the wishes of a lot of people. Who wouldn't want to get big and strong, working alongside a buddy to encourage you?
