Motivation in Toronto Hey: I've been on here for several years, mainly as a lurker because I couldn't get my account working, but now I'm here and I've got to say, first of all, thank you to all the authors who have looked after me over the years, both on the archive and the forum. I'm a small guy, but I'm looking to gain some muscle. The trouble is, I can't seem to stay motivated to do it in the long run, even though I do make an effort to work out when I am motivated. I'd love to meet someone who can keep me in that focused mind, and have some fun with it as well. I'm in Toronto, and I know there are some other Torontonians here. If anyone from the area's interested in chatting, working out together, or whatever, I'd love to get to know you. Cheers |

Hey Glitz Just ran across your post. I am not in Toronto (Buffalo actually) but just had a few words of advice for you. At first it can be frustrating to work out, but you really do have to commit. Make it fun, and trick yourself if possible to keep at it. Bring music you like, hire a trainer if you can afford it. Don't overdo it, at the beginning consistency is more important, just get in the habit of going to the gym. Once you settle into a new routine you will start to get stronger and more motivated. Get enough sleep and eat well. Those things are equally important. I find the "eye candy" can keep me going as well! I am tall and a hard gainer. Since I am vegetarian its always been a struggle to gain and eat enough protein. But I did gain steadily over the the first ten years or so that I lifted weights, and gained about 50-60 pounds of muscle. You just have to learn to enjoy it and not think of it as work. Hope that helps in some way. |

Re: Motivation in Toronto Thanks, mslheet. Any advice is welcome. Believe me, though, through so many years of working out on and off, and of course visiting bodybuilding sites (not just for the tips, of course), I've picked up a lot of lore about gaining muscle. My real problem is that I'm not very good at sticking it out in the long run when it comes to any sort of goal. I get distracted from goals easily if I don't have constant reminders and a clear direction all the time. A trainer would be great, but the money isn't there. Music wouldn't motivate me either, even if I had an iPod, because I can play music anywhere and still have it with me. I should try and keep the eye candy in mind. That just might get me in there. Here's to trying! Thanks again. I'd still love to meet anyone from Toronto who's interested in chatting or working out. |
