slap happy The past few times I was at the gym, I saw some huge guys (a different guy each time) slapping themselves between sets. Has anyone else seen this behavior?? One guy was slapping himself very hard on the back of his neck, his upper arms, then his thighs. Even I was psyched after seeing that. Hey, if doing that makes me as big as those guys, I'll do it! |

Slap happy Yeah, I've seen it before. Its sort of like a drill sargent screaming at you to motivate you to finish and not to wimp out. The guys you saw are just trying to psyche each other up and push through that invisible barrier of growth. In my workouts, I pictured that the next set is the one that made my shirts a little tighter. No pain, no gain!! __________________ -ottomun6- It's time to stop sitting on the sidelines and get in there! |

I usually psych myself out by grunting really loud, but if slapping helps, I'm sure my husband would be more than happy to help! What gets me through each set is the fact that Otto's arms are bigger than mine, and I need to change that... __________________ God is in the rain. |

I think it might be partly to increase blood flow to the muscles, which improves recuperation time and also helps them grow bigger. Sort of the same reason why people get massages after a workout... |
