Bigger Than I Thought

Don't yet feel that big but was nice to visit Doctor today. Could not take my blood pressure as they did not have anything big enough to get around my upper arm! Only 19" so far but this trip to the Doctor made me feel must bigger than I usually feel.

On a similar vein, I had to go for an MRI scan on my shoulder for a niggling Rugby injury which was taking a long time to heal.
Anyway, I lay on the stretcher and they started to slide me into the magnet ring of the scanner. However I didn't get to far as my shoulders caught on the lip of the ring. Aparently my shoulders were too wide to fit into the machine! It took 3 attempts of me scruntching my shoulders and turning slightly on my side before the wedged me into it. Not a comfortable experience as the imaging proceedure takes 20 mins. And it turned out that the images were of little use because of teh contorted position I was in!

Next Time

Thanks for the post, msclbldr. What a waste of time to have to be smushed up for 20 minutes and then not be able to use the results! Here's hoping that the next time they just look at you, then each other, and then shrug their shoulders saying, "Too BIG!" I hope your recovery is progressing.

Same thing happened to me three times in an MRI. My shoulders were too wide to get me into the machine, and the reason I was there was for a hurt bicep. They ended up pullig my arms up over my head outside of the machine and then advancing me in. That didn't work either because shoulders were still a bit too wide plus my lats hit the edges. I ended up having to turn on my hurt side and arms up over my head for a 40 minute exam...it was unbearable!

I had a DEXA scan last year, which consists of lying on a flat surface while an xray scanner slowly travels over you head to toe. They had trouble getting my arms into the width of the scan area -- the size of my lats and triceps makes it difficult for me to keep my arms pressed against my sides. So, they used masking tape as an impromptu strap around my midsection to keep my arms in place.

Ahh, the disadvantages of getting huge...I'm sure you'll carry on somehow!

Bigger than I thought.....

To this day I never consider myself as "BIG", but it somtimes dawns on me at various times as whenever I go to restaurants and feel like I stick out like a sore thumb, plane seats if I am stuck in coach, or Heaven forbid one of those commuter jets, and most recently the doctor's office when I could barely squeeze between two people and managed to break the arm off of the chair in the waiting room with my thigh.

Well. it still feels great anyway!

I guess I can contribute to this topic... last time I went to the fair a couple summers ago, I mainly went for a concert but of course I had to go on the rides. however, there were a few rides I couldn't go on because I was too big. the ones that have the harness that comes down over your upper body, because of my chest, they wouldn't come down all the way and click into the fastener. it sucked but I realized it was kinda funny. the ones that just had the lap bars were fine, so I had to settle for those the whole day.
